Metric Paper Wasp - I don't have a macro lens but often shoot macro subjects with my telephoto lens. This is one of my favorite recent "macro" photos.

It was suggested that I right & top crop the original to better center the image, so this is the result. Yay? Nay?

Here's a throwback set from April 2010. The Junos were in St. John's and Metric played a show at the Delta Ballroom.
Metric @ Sound Academy - December 13 2008
I know I haven't updated much lately...I've been (sort of) taking a break from shooting shows and am focusing on some other things in my life right now. It'll all pick back up in the new year. :)
UPDATE: Just uploaded more shots to livebabylive.com/bandpic.php?id=62&. Yes, a miracle! I updated my site!

...quedan cenizas.
If you said this looks like a beautiful 70 degree Fahrenheit day (I know silly non-metric measurement system), you would be right. If you said this looked like a frigid, below freezing day, you would be correct as well. At sunrise, not only was it freezing, but the wind coming off this lake from the direction I was facing was nasty. So much so it was causing a strange reverberating vibration in the tripod. I was literally holding two tripod legs still with my knees and the other with my free hand while triggering the shutter with an IR remote. Guess I need one of those monster tripods. Oh well, by afternoon I was in shorts and a T-shirt, driving with the top down, and generally enjoying not freezing my extremities off. Such is Wisconsin weather.
So on a Macro Mondays posting recently someone mentioned that they didn’t have a ruler and hoped their picture was within the 3” parameters. And I got to thinking about teaching my elementary kids about measuring —- you always have a ruler with you….
For most people the distance between the first and second knuckle on your forefinger (pointer) is about an inch - even on adults. Go ahead try it… For those of you using metric measurements it’s about 2.4cms…..
So now you can measure macro items with more confidence!…… (By the way, another equivalency - the distance between your bent wrist and your crooked elbow is about the size of your foot. There are others.)
And if you’ve stuck with me for this science/math lesson— wish me a happy birthday 🎂- yes, it really and truly is my birthday!!

My indispensable 3/8" metric socket set. I got along fine with my 1/2" SAE set for many years but when I bought my 1974 Toyota Corona I had no choice but to go metric. Now everything here is metric and I haven't touched my SAE set since I sold my last antique car.
