Rodney Beckman, 43, of Murphysboro, scours Riverside Park with his metal detector in search of rare coins. Beckman is a corn and bean farmer, working 2,000 acres west of Murphysboro near the towns of Gorham and Jacob. Beckman has been collecting coins since he was a youth and said he thinks metal detecting is just an extension of this hobby. Isaac Smith ~ DAILY EGYPTIAN

The entrance gate of Humayun's tomb in Delhi, one of the prime tourist attractions of the city. The entrance gate is typically chained, and due to increased security, visitors are allowed to go in through smaller gates to the side of this gate as can be seen in the photo, after they pass through metal detectors. Just next to the gate is the ticket counter where entry tickets can be bought. If you look through the gates, the photo shows off a barricaded area where restoration was taking place earlier as well as a structure with a dome in the background. Humayun Tomb is a magnificent red sandstone structure, located in the heart of Delhi. It is the tomb of the second great Mughal emperor, Humayun and was commissioned by his wife, Hamida Banu Begum in 1562 AD. It is a garden tomb, with the central structure of the tomb located in the middle of large gardens.
The tomb is located very close to the Purana Qila, the fort used by the Mughals as their citadel. The tomb has gone through large scale renovation in collaboration with the Aga Khan trust and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage monument.
The tomb, in addition to housing the tomb of the emperor, also houses the graves of his wife Hamida Begum and many others as well (including many later not so famous emperors of the Mughal dynasty) and the famous Dara Shikoh.

Siesta Beach - Sarasota, FL
Winner of the "Worlds finest, whitest sand," Siesta Key Public Beach extends along a half-mile of the most pristine white sands in the world.
Unlike beaches elsewhere that are made up mostly of coral, Siesta Beach's sand is 99% quartz.
The pure quartz, pulverized to a fine powder, has a magical quality. There is no sand quite like Siesta's, anywhere.
Even under the burning subtropical sun, it feels cool to the touch.
Siesta Key has received many honors for its powdery white-sand beaches, including:
- In 2004 the Travel Channel named Siesta Beach "The Best Sand Beach in America" because of its 99% pure quartz sand that stays cool under your feet.
- In 2011, Siesta Beach was rated as the #1 beach in the United States by "Dr. Beach", a.k.a. Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, director of Florida International University's highly respected Laboratory for Coastal Research.
- Also named, "One Of The Best Walking Beaches in the USA", by USA Today International Edition; and “The Best of the Best Sand” by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.

This is another of the perennial residents of the Wildwood beaches - an older gentleman with a metal detector sifting the sands for "treasure". One gentleman we spoke to in past years yielded about $1.85 per day, but he said that at least once he wound up with a few thousand dollars when he found someone's lost wedding ring. He always tries to turn them in to the police, but if they go unclaimed then they become his.
I thought this horseshoe was really neat - it still has the nails poking through it. Found in Deep Brook in North Chelmsford.

Set up camp in the Vietnam Highlands in the dark, we woke up in the morning to see this local man outside our tent looking for ordnance to be sold for scrap. We scarpered pretty quickly. Always ask if it is OK and/or safe to camp.

with a lot of police around too.
They were set up before the gateline, with some tensabarrier funnelling people through them.
Are the public obliged to actually go through them? Would they have been able to do anything if I'd gone around the side?

Heavy police presence at White City station complete with walk through metal detector. Is it knife-wielding hoodies they're after, or smiling BBC executives with knives under their cloaks?
A lone Metal Detector walking along the beach at Bournemouth.
While I was watching and taking his photograph I didn't see him find anything just waving his stick around.

Cider Mill Pond is a neat site in Westford - trails, an old mill, and a weird rock formation. I found all this at the mill site - the best part are all the old square nails.
