KUALA LUMPUR: A large crowd of Malaysians gathered at KLCC to celebrate the country's 56th Independence Day.
A week from now, the nation will be celebrating the 60years Merdeka Day (Independence day) on 31st August, but then the government decided not to celebrate this occasion in a grand way like what we did for the 50years MerdekaDay in 2007. Only an annual parade will be held at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. There is no special commemorative stamp,coin or even bank note will be issue for this occasion.

The main figure is the first Prime Minister,Tunku Abdul Rahman. Also prominent are the National Monument. the national flower (the Hibiscus) and the Malaysian flag.
THe choice of flag design might have been infkuenced by the prominence of the United States at the time of independence, 1957. The design also has strong similarities to the flag of the British East India Company.

Kuala Lumpur's latest 'tallest in the city tower, Merdeka 118, emerges through some low clouds in this view from Muzium Negara.
The building has a 118-storeys and is 679 metres high. It is currently listed as the second tallest building in the world. Malaysian government officials still have a fondness for tall skyscrapers.

Merdeka is a word in the Indonesian language meaning Independence or freedom. As today is Indonesia Independence Day which people of Indonesian always say this word for celebration...^_^

Merdeka Square or Dataran Merdeka is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight (time: 12:00 AM) on August 31, 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annual Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade).
