Une photo prise durant mon voyage sur l’île de Java en Indonésie. Un cliché au lever du soleil sur le volcan Merapi qui est encore actif comme nous pouvons le voir sur la photo. La brume du fond de vallée masque encore le temple de Borbudur.

The widely spread broad-handed carpenter bee really pops up everwhere. This one Martin Siering and I found afoot the famous active volcano Merapi. Similar to drangonflies they perch in one particular spot over and over again. This way we where able to photograph it after only a few tries.

Literally "Mountain of Fire", Mount Merapi is the most active volcano in all Indonesia and it has erupted at least 68 times since 1548. The volcano is though to be largely responsible for the downfall of the Hindu Mataram kingdom in 1006 and the desertion of the huge temple complex at nearby Prambanan. Recent eruptions include 1994 (64 killed), 2006 (no immediate deaths, but a prelude to an earthquake that killed over 5000) and 2010 (30 dead).
Merapi Mountain (Gunung Merapi) is the most active volcano on Sumatra island (50 eruptions since 18th century). Its elevation is 2,891 m. It is located near the centre of Minangkabau culture – Bukittinggi.
Merapi Mountain is the most important mountain for Minangkabau people. In Tambo (Minang literature) it is told that first people arrived to West Sumatra when all the Earth was covered by sea. They landed on the only piece of land that juts out of the water – the top of Merapi Mountain. In the region, you can find a lot of burial stones oriented in the direction of Merapi mountain. This fact shows her spiritual and cultural importance.

A very amazing photo spot from Indonesia, precisely in Magelang, Central Java, presenting a dashing view of an active volcano, namely Mount Merapi with a waterfall, the most suitable time to capture the moment here is at sunrise.

The Kinahrejo village in central Java is among those devastated by the eruption of Mt. Merapi in 2010, which blanketed areas with ash. A few months after it was still an empty place but the green slowly starts to be the main colour again...
