A mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern generally associated with subjective distress or disability that occurs in an individual, and which is not a part of normal development or culture. The recognition and understanding of mental health conditions has changed over time and across cultures, and there are still variations in the definition, assessment, and classification of mental disorders, although standard guideline criteria are widely accepted. A few mental disorders are diagnosed based on the harm to others, regardless of the subject's perception of distress. Over a third of people in most countries report meeting criteria for the major categories at some point in their lives.

The causes are often explained in terms of a diathesis-stress model or biopsychosocial model. In biological psychiatry, mental disorders are conceptualized as disorders of brain circuits likely caused by developmental processes shaped by a complex interplay of genetics and experience.[1]

Services are based in psychiatric hospitals or in the community. Diagnoses are made by psychiatrists or clinical psychologists using various methods, often relying on observation and questioning in interviews. Treatments are provided by various mental health professionals. Psychotherapy and psychiatric medication are two major treatment options, as are social interventions, peer support and self-help. In some cases there may be involuntary detention and involuntary treatment where legislation allows.

Stigma and discrimination add to the suffering associated with the disorders, and have led to various social movements attempting to increase acceptance.

It was nice to get out on a little bike ride along Puget Sound last night. It really helps to get your mind off of everything going on around us at the moment. As we were riding, the sun started to break through the thick clouds. I couldn't find anything to use for a foreground, so Evelyn gladly posed for the shot. I love the dynamic range of the Sony Camera sensor - this was a single shot exposure!

Slightly desaturated, otherwise as taken!

..I had a mental break down today, well, it was all inside today for the most part.

Until I just looked -him- in the eyes and he knew something was wrong.

He drove back and forth, up and down my drive way until I'd say something.. he knew this would drive me crazy. For the sake of wasting gas and my hardcore environmentalist ways.

Of course, I finally spilled, but not very detailed.

He was already running late, so I let him go. We hugged and I told him not to worry.

After he left I called him and reminded him not to worry.

Sigh, this is life. As I always say, it happens. Tomorrow will be better, is all I can hope.

This day last year.

He looks like mentally concentrating, but actually he's just getting tired from walking too much at Hakone hiking course.

Green fields, sunny light, and breath of air... Here must be the best place to relax!

Liechennay stainless steel sculptures.

From a very young age, Liechennay has been exposed to the creative process thanks to her mother’s artistic activities, as a gold jewelry designer in Indonesia, her home country.

It was there that he studied, beginning a successful career in interior design before he realized that sculpture would be the next phase of his creative journey.

He worked for several years perfecting his technique and created sculptures that became increasingly complex. He began dreaming of creating large-format sculptures and several monumental sculpture projects became a reality.

We have a crystal sphere at home. I was wondering what to do with it. Here I am holding the crystal sphere in the living room, capturing our backyard.

“Our city, these streets, I don't know why it makes me so depressed. That old familiar gloom that befalls the city dweller, regular as due dates, cloudy as mental Jell-O. The dirty facades, the nameless crowds, the unremitting noise, the packed rush-hour trains, the gray skies, the billboards on every square centimeter of available space, the hopes and resignation, irritation and excitement. And everywhere, infinite options, infinite possibilities. An infinity, and at the same time, zero. We try to scoop it all up in our hands, and what we get is a handful of zero."
