The James Caird with a penguin, in the corridor of Dulwich College.
The boat was one of the lifeboats on the Endurance, on Shackleton's ill-fated 1914 trip to Antarctica. Shackleton had been a student at Dulwich College and left his boat to them.
Since I now have family settled in the Barossa Valley, and I hope to be visiting them on a regular basis, I discovered that there is a Barossa Photography Club. I contacted them and they kindly invited me out on a Photowalk with them to this derelict farmhouse. I hope to be spending more time with them.
Working with lead Seasoned visual artist Haleh Jamali and also supported by Lindsay McFarlane, patients have created artworks inspired by memories set into drawers. Each drawer draws on particular memory themes, is wall-papered with photos, text and images and contains found and made objects. The drawers are to be framed as hung boxes. Installed on top are memory bottles containing short pieces memories that patients can use to discuss with others. Created in Bannockburn Hospital, Stirling 2011-12
This sculpture of five pen nibs is located at one of the entrances to Supreme Court Gardens in the city. I figured it was some kind of monument to the generations of clerks and lawyers who've worked in the courts - as it turns out it's all about written memories of the gardens from the Victorian era. Go figure.
"Once in the dream of night i stood,
lone in the light of a magic wood,
spirits of love were the stars that glowed.
The spirits of peace were the streams that flowed
into that magical wood in the land of sleep." Sarojini Naidu
I took a trip to Skorradalur with my step dad to take this picture of a memory that he had of his grandpa when he was a little boy
"Memories blur into dreams. Light bleeds into truth. Everything unforgiven; everything becoming hallow. Loneliness consumes and there is no way back. The places you played; the places you called home; the people you thought you loved, all of them, reduced to a memory of another life. A life you never lived. All the yesterdays that came from tomorrow, all the tomorrows that never came from yesterday. A new beginning because forever is never forever."
Ólafur Arnalds
... the ones I've loved.
It is Memorial Day tomorrow in the USA. It used to be that they held the 30th of May special for memorial day until some ding-dong decided we needed a 3-day-weekend every May instead of a holiday in the middle of the week... or whenever the 30th fell.
In any case, I remember we used to go to the cemetery and in superb quiet, placed fragrant lilacs and other early flowers on the graves of our dearly departed.
It gave a sense of "family" and "forever."
Now, we live thousands of miles away from those I knew when I grew up. I can't visit their graves, so their memories live in my garden & in my kitchen... permanently.
Grandma Jessie would have loved these tiny little flowers, about the size of a teaspoon. She always took slide pictures of flowers and now, with modern equipment, those slides have been scanned and preserved on CDs.

關於微醺記憶
About Memories.
I debated for some time if I should publish this picture, but after much consideration I felt that today, of all days, was probably the best of days on which to include it.
There is much debate over the reasons for Holodomor, or "Extermination by Hunger". Was Stalin targeting the Ukraine people with his policies, or was he mindlessly attacking anyone and anything that stood in his way? I don't know, I doubt anyone will ever truly know the mind of Stalin, what is not debated is that millions died of starvation, possibly as many as 7.5 million in Ukraine alone, as a result of the first five year plan.
This simple memorial stands just outside the church at the edge of Severodonetsk as a lasting reminder that, on this last day of 2012, man's worst enemy is always himself and the atrocities his is prepared to enact on his fellow man. A photographer's place is not to politicize, but just to record. But if we don't remember the disasters of the past, both from this last year and further back into history, then we will, without doubt, repeat the same mistakes.
I don't believe in much, but I do believe it is our responsibilities, not just to wish each other a happy new year and rely on hope. Saying the words at the end of the year simply isn't enough any more. Very few people really believed the Mayan prediction that the world was going to end in December, but the balance has become so delicate that it is no longer beyond reason and even the most scientific among us wondered just how close to the tipping point the world has become, both economically and environmentally.
We must strive to actively ensure that 2013 will be a better year than 2012 for every person that we make contact with over the next 12 months. With that in mind ... have a happy 2013
Sopot is located in the North of Poland. It has wonderful hotels, beaches, pubs, restaurants and forests. Sopot is one of the best spots for summer holidays in Europe. Sopot is one of the smallest but one of the most beautiful Polish towns. A big forest surrounds Sopot to the west and Gdansk Gulf to the east. It takes about four hours from Polish capital Warsaw by train to Sopot. During summer there are more visitors than citizens from all parts of Europe. Do not look for other place to make hotel reservation in Poland.

My grand-mother died 3 years ago.
I think of her every day, I miss her so much. They told me the pain goes away, but they're wrong.
This is the first picture with me and my grand-mother when I was a baby. I wish I could see her again to tell her how much I love her.
I miss you.
I wonder if my rope's still hanging from the tree
By the standing pool where you drank me
And filled me full of thirsty love
And the memory of water?
I wonder if a king still fishes there
His back towards the burned-out air
His laughing catches singing loud
The memory of water
Your taste is blood and ecstasy
But I must drink you all alone
You're freckled like a speckled egg
A dove, but this bird has flown
O stay with me sweet memory
O stay with me
I wonder if my rope's still hanging from the tree
By the standing pool where you drank me
As pain flows through me like champagne
Of the memory of water
