On a scorching hot day, unbranded Northern unit 150105 (ex. London Midland liveried), seen from its "Bernie" end (the other apparently carries the name "Hutchie"), passes the magnificent upper quadrant starter signal ‘PY3’ at Plumley with the 5J43 09.42 Chester-Newton Heath ECS working. The controlling Plumley West box and one of it's home signals are barely visible in the distance. A classic example where the infrastructure is more captivating than the subject, in my books.
Neither of the two scheduled freights produced on this occasion, which for a regular Thursday was a tad disappointing. This was the next to best substitute I could induce. I was slightly relieved by the cancellations in the end as the M6 en-route was heaving with masses of cricket fans heading to Old Trafford to watch a world cup fixture between England and India (ironically, I encountered more Indian supporters than Brits en-route, most memorably one of the services we stopped at was nothing less than a swarm of blue!); otherwise I would have been cutting it fine!
Today we went to the Coaldale Birds of Prey Center.
It was later in the day...an hour from closing and not many people around.
Inside was a tiny baby burrowing owl in a box with a sign .." Please ..do not touch!" above it. The lady from the center was kind enough to take the little one out of the box and set it gently on the floor for me to photograph. I of course got down on one knee..then laid on the floor..hoping for a perfect "birds eye" view and photograph.
To my (and everyone's) amazement it made a bee line directly for me and went over my arm and snuggled up against my chest. My husband took this picture (and a couple more below).
These little owls are on the endangered species list but are making a comeback here. I was amazed, thrilled and so excited to have it so close to me.
...My hubby and the center lady jokingly said that it was just trying to get inside a deep cave to hide (my blouse )...lol

A shot made memorable for me not by any aspect of the shot itself, bang average, but by the memory of seeing Tony sprawled across the beach having tripped after stepping into "a hole" (a very minor indentation actually) in the sand. Maybe you had to be there but hilarious nonetheless!
Hands down the scariest place I photographed all year, the old mansion in Mantua. I became obsessed with this place and felt a mixture of anguish and relief when it was finally demolished back in June.
One of those unforgettable moments when we came upon a group of Louisiana Waterthrush fledglings as we worked a stream for salamanders.
A vintage scene where the lady poses by the window with the most memorable view. Locaton: the Greek island of Santorini in the southern Aegean Sea.
This image began with a photo taken in Santorini by a friend which I converted to a watercolor. Used my elements to create the wall mural. Starting background, columns, window frame and lady from itKuPiLLi at Mischief Circus. Additional background textures and painterly effects from AWAKE, itKuPiLLi and DesignCuts.

This photo was taken on Thurs, March 31st. During our trip to Patagonia, this was supposed to be the clearest day of the week, according pretty much every weather forecast I could find. Consequently, the group decided that this was going to be the day that we do the longest hike on the trip – a hike up to Lago De Los Tres, at the foot of Mt. Fitzroy. I wanted this waterfall to be one of my key shots during sunrise, so we woke up at 5:00 AM and headed out by 5:15 AM to try and get it. We found this very nice Korean lady who decided to hike with us since she did not know the way to Fitzroy. Also, she was scared of the dark and appreciated the company, so we made sure to keep her with our group. After 2 hours of hiking, we got to the waterfall. It was still dark, so we waited. In typical Patagonia fashion, the wind picked up and it started to snow on us. It was cold… extremely cold. The Korean lady stayed back at Lago Capri, so the three of us were huddled together behind a large rock, to shield the wind, trying to stay unfrozen. Pretty soon, it became clear that we were not going to get the shot I wanted. The two other group members decided to head back up to the trail in order to get out of the wind and to try and warm up. I took my last few shots (this is one of them) and headed back up to the trail to meet up with my friends. This is where it got interesting.
I headed back up and didn’t see them. I called out for a bit with no answer (not expecting much either since it was windy). I decided to hike around to try and find them – down the trail, up the trail, around the area we were at, over the cliffs to see if they fell – everywhere! I was pretty damn concerned by this point and started asking passing hikers by keep an eye out for them. Over an hour later, I saw one of my friends coming back up the trail to where we were originally, and yelled out “where the f**k have you been?! And where the f**k is the other group member?!” Turns out, she was so cold, that she could not bear it anymore and had to turn back and go back to town. Additionally, they hiked a full kilometer back down the trail! Eventually we figured out why they did, and it was due to a communication error. We chalked it up to the wind since it made communicating with the other group members difficult at times - we had a hard time hearing each other haha. We quickly established a new set up operating rules among the group to prevent another miscommunication. I did not want to fear for them like that again haha.
As a side note, the rest of the day was cold and snowy. And tomorrow was supposed to be worse. Damn.
Anyway, this is the only shot I got from that day, and I still enjoy it. The sunrise did light up the clouds, which created an interesting scene with the waterfall. I hope you enjoy it! :)
Sorry to people who commented on the second copy of this, my phone was being a twat and uploaded it twice.

This shot kind of gets lost in my memory behind another photograph I took on this October morning back in 2011. The sun had risen over a foggy, frosty landscape that day, giving me the chance to capture arguably my best and most widely known photograph of a meet at Murray siding: www.flickr.com/photos/revbry/6269708574/.
After I took that photo, I chased the westbound toward Glenwood and found this eastbound ballast train waiting to depart. Not long after the westbound pulled into the yard (seen in the distance), these three EMDs blew out some carbon as they blasted out of Glenwood. Other plans with family for the day precluded a chase to the east, but I believe several other railfans were able to capitalize on this beautiful power that morning. Looking back, it's hard to believe how fortunate I was to get a beautiful fog shot and this nice consist in one morning. These were good times! October 22, 2011.

A fine bright day to visit Rotterdam and two of its memorable sites: the fine Trompenburg Arboretum (1821) (see my earlier www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/36240123353/in/photoli... and the inset in this photo) and the mind-bending ultramodern Markthal (2014).
The Arboretum reminded me again of what's said about the Garden of Eden, a Paradise of Green, famed, of course, for its notable Trees!
The main photo, though, is of a part of the grand mural of the Markthal (2014), a combination of residence, office building and a huge food markt with restaurants galore. The enormous building was designed by the Dutch archictectural venture MVRDV; the murals are the work of Arno Coenen (1972-). Horn of Plenty, a suitable name if you are astounded as I was by the amazing array of foods sold here, has an area of 11,000 square metres (about 2 soccerfields)! All kinds of 'plenty' are illustrated in vivid colors.
Of course I was reminded of the Horn of Plenty in John Milton's Paradise Regained and of the lush and vibrant paintings of Henri Rousseau. But I was brought back to Eden by Coenen's caterpillar, wondering what might have happened if it had caught hold of that 'apple' before Eve and Adam... Perhaps then there'd have been no need for Douanier Angels!
Taken last summer on a bird & whale tour in Bay Bulls/Witless Bay, NL. I have been many times in my life, but this trip was special, as it was with a group of my friends from Brazil, none of whom had seen a puffin or a humpback whale before! It was an exciting and memorable day.
