We seldom use the big lenses inside the International Space Station… but it’s still 70m long, so I can play paparazzi from the forward end of the Station and shoot Oleg at the back end of it. I haven't introduced Oleg yet, we already spent six months in space together and many more on Earth training, as he was my Soyuz commander for mission Proxima. A great guy and a perfect commander he has taught me a lot. It is a lucky privilege to be able to return to space with the same people, not many astronaut expeditions align like this. I am lucky to be reunited with Shane in space and also Oleg. With Oleg we are planned to share the full six months again, whereas my path crossed with Shane in space last time for only half an Expedition.
Nous utilisons rarement les grands objectifs à l'intérieur de l'ISS... celui-ci fait tout de même 70 m de long, ce qui m’a permis de jouer les paparazzi : posté à l'extrémité avant de l'ISS, j’ai photographié Oleg à l'arrière de celle-ci ! Je n'ai pas encore (re)présenté Oleg. Nous avons passé six mois ensemble dans l'espace et bien plus encore sur Terre à nous entraîner, puisqu'il était mon commandant de Soyouz pour la mission Proxima. Un type formidable et un commandant parfait, j’ai beaucoup appris avec lui. C'est un privilège de pouvoir retourner dans l'espace avec les mêmes personnes, peu d'expéditions d'astronautes s'alignent comme cela. J'ai même la chance de retrouver 2 anciens co-équipiers pour cette mission : Shane, avec qui j’avais passé la moitié de ma 1re mission, et Oleg avec qui je devrais partager à nouveau les 6 mois complets.

This is literally version four of this plane.
Of the MeMe-21, there is not much to be said. It is fast, cheap, and simple. It does its job, and has done so for twenty years. This plane could be found all over the world at one time, but recent events in the homeland has obscured it's true numbers (This is my way of saying whoof even knows if I'll be able to sell this thing as well as the Soviets). This particular plane is an early version serving the UAR in its 1967 curbstomp by war against the Samaritan State. Most MeMe-21s were destroyed in the first thirteen minutes of the war by surprise Samaritan air force strikes on airfields.
Of the builders, more can be said. "MeMe" stands for Meitarius-Merscalcus, who lend their name to that Design Bureau. It was founded by two lower caste Cimmerians: Meitarius, an assistant to a designer during the Great International Meltdown (also known as Wew War 2); and Merscalcus, who served during the war as a slave laborer with a talent for creative solutions, known and valued by his masters. With the surrender of the remnants of the Cimmerian National Government, warlord Chindasvinthus also ordered the release of all those enslaved by his predecessors. Chindasvinthus remained nominal Overlord of Cimmeria for a few months longer, the communists used his knowledge to set up their own government. He recommended that they use the pool of skilled workers that had accumulated during the war and immediately put them back to work, instead of letting them languish in the looming post-war economic nightmare. Chindasvinthus officially handed over power to the People's Republic of Cimmeria in the autumn of 1946, but not before ordering the creation of the Meitarius-Merscalcus Design Bureau. One of the most iconic instutions of communism in Cimmeria was thus not the result of the Communist Party, but rather one of its greatest opponents! Communist one-party rule began with irony, and it would end with irony.

Going all the way back to the original production run of the MiG-21F-13, Soviet engineers were hard at work on a way to greatly increase the plane's range, avionics, and payload. The results was the MiG-21R reconnaissance plane and the MiG-21S fighter, which succeeded in all three fields. However, they were still missing a gun, and the experiences in the Middle East and Vietnam made it clear guns still had a place in aerial combat. By 1969, the MiG-21SM had rolled around, which was a MiG-21S with a more powerful engine and an integrated gun beneath the fuselage. The MiG-21MF export version followed, which was the same plane with an older radar.
After ten years of struggle and innovation done at the barrel of a gun, Meitarius-Merscalcus finally got the Meme-23 they set out to build, in the MF version. The air frame had far higher tolerances, the avionics were capable, an automatic flare dispenser system had been added, handling problems were solved, and this was all done without losing any significant amount of speed. The MF became the backbone fighter of the Kimmerian National Air Force, as well as seeing service with the UAR, with even further upgrades made there. Overall, the MF has seen combat service in Elam, Sen, and Rodinia so far.
