Sunrise over Melbourne CBD.

A beautiful picture of the Yarra River, Melbourne, with the CBD as a backdrop.

A windy, cloudy , Port Phillip Bay. With Melbourne city in the background.

Dan Andrews, Victorian Premier, will go down in history for his phrase "back on the beers" Here is my over-processed take on this idea. A new eating/drinking area on Southbank with a Corona Beer ( found at the Botanic Gardens) with a bit of texture and blur.

More of the buildings on the Southbank of the Yarra, lit up at night with a great array of colours. With a bit of blur as I liked the colourful reflections on the Yarra

Long exposure of the traffic flow under the rail bridge next to the Yarra. This bridge is rather low and has led to some problems with drivers who don't know the heights of their trucks! HFF

On Friday I went down to the city to see the Paartkima light display at Fed Square. After Sangria and Spanish food at La Bomba we wandered down just at sunset. The clouds and colours were lovely, not extremely bright but gave a great glow.

This weekend is a long weekend with the Moomba Festival and Labour Day on Monday. The city was really buzzing especially with young people.

Remember it was 3 years ago that the WHO declared a Global Pandemic that is still going on!

These bridge sculptures were part of the display during the Commonwealth Games some years ago (then floating on the Yarra River). The Sandridge Bridge is much older and well used as a footbridge. You usually dry off on a duckboard, but it rained so much the day I took this image I was about as far away from being dry as it is possible to be.

The gas fired machines outside Crown Casino produce these flares at night on an hourly schedule. They really produce quite a sound and heat effect.

For Definitely Dreaming week 22. The Manchester Unity building top lit up at night. The building is too big to capture in one photo and constrained by the other buildings around.

With an Art Deco design and sumptuous internal fittings, it is a building that I would love to see inside.

Melbourne itself is also too big. A sprawling city surrounding Port Phillip Bay.

Melbourne's skyline is an impressive mix of modern architecture and historical heritage. Skyscrapers like Eureka Tower, the city's tallest building, and Australia 108, with its iconic golden star, stand out. Along the Yarra River, landmarks such as Crown Casino and Federation Square can be seen. Its constant growth reflects the city's economic and cultural dynamism. At night, its illuminated towers create a vibrant urban landscape. Melbourne is a financial and tech hub, driving its vertical expansion. From observation decks like Eureka Skydeck, visitors enjoy spectacular panoramic views. Its skyline is a symbol of modernity and elegance.

I was playing around with a friend and thought we would experiment with exposure together. This image consists of people and cars passing me when my shutter was left open for 8 seconds.

Flinders Street is one of Melbourne’s most iconic streets, known for its vibrant activity and historical significance. It is home to the famous Flinders Street Station, Australia’s oldest railway station, opened in 1910. The street is lined with historic buildings, shops, cafés, and bars, making it a key city hotspot. It runs alongside the Yarra River and is close to Federation Square, a major cultural hub. The area is bustling with both tourists and locals due to its excellent public transport connections. At night, the station’s lighting makes it even more picturesque. It also serves as a starting point for many city tours. Its rich history and lively atmosphere make it a must-visit destination in Melbourne.

While this photo was taken a wee while ago it looks like Melbourne will have a bright and sunny Christmas. While I won't be visiting the city again for a while (as far as I know) here's hoping the summer and relaxed coronavirus restrictions allow the businesses and people to enjoy themselves. Only a few days to go! I will save my Christmas greetings to later in the week! But stay safe and well everyone.

I was captivated by the wonderful colours that reflected onto the ANZ building at Docklands during sunset.

Deliberate in camera zoom as the night fell after dinner in the city. Happy Window Wednesday.

941 infections and 8 deaths. Numbers are coming down.

I went down to the city for a short while last Saturday afternoon. My first visit since Andrew, Jette and I had a night stroll round Docklands on 9 March.

This is the view that showed me how much life had changed. Normally this laneway is stuffed full of chairs and tables with people enjoying food at all hours. Now it's bare indeed with only a couple of the small shops open for take-away or items for sale.

The chairs and tables are stuffed inside behind notices and closed doors

This light installation was attracting a group of youngsters. But it is Christmas and we need a bit of colour this year more than others.

Christmas Magic is the theme for this month's FOTF (thanks Jesse) and nothing says Christmas like lights at night.

This installation is called Sky Castle – a dreamy, interactive sound and light installation, formed by a cluster of inflatable arches that span in colourful symphony across Fed Square. For a limited time only until 14 December.

I will be at the dentist again today so may not get around to commenting. Will be back again tomorrow. Take care everyone.

Puddles and ponds to get reflections of buildings are not that common in Melbourne but outside the National Gallery is this pond where I was able to get some reflection of the Arts Centre Spire next door.. For Rodney Chester who does these types of shots superbly.
