Concentric Bowls

When Gail saw these bowls in my kitchen tonight she exclaimed, "Photo op". So since I hadn't thought of photographing them before as a collection and I hadn't done my 365, here they are. Thanks Gail.

Originally- I envisioned a thick "slice" of a Thai-Acacia-Wood-Tree-Root, suspended (framed) within this 6"-deep

"display-cabinet", but due to a variety of issues from sizes of Root Slices avail, to not being sure I could "get" the pair

I envisioned, I pivoted to using my Photography, printed as a decorative element.

The client liked the idea- and that's what we're gonna do!

This design was made from mid 1960s to late 70s by Brazilian brand Goyana, molded of Melamine plastic, both in bold colors or decorated; in this example, in typical early 1970s decor. You will find other examples of Goyana products in this photostream. This set was given me as a birthday present by dear friends Chico & Bianca this August. Thank you!

My work desk is a pretty stock standard one in muted grey melamine with slightly darker edges, It has 3 drawers on the right, with silver handles. This shot is taken with my camera just overhanging the top edge of the desk, peeping down through the 3 drawer handles.

Melamine bowls I asked for as a Christmas Present last year. The colours are fairly faithful (after some fiddling!).

Mini version of my kitchen that my husband made for Henry (with some very minor help from me). Appliances are pieces of melamine shelving and cabinets and backsplash are MDF. Cutting board made with pieces of scrap wood.

This design was made from in late 70s by Brazilian brand Goyana, molded of Melamine plastic, both decorated white or in bold colors. The spoons were made by other maker but match perfectly. You will find other examples of Goyana products in this photostream. This set was given me as a birthday present by dear friends Helena & Marcellus this August. Thank you!

Goyana was the only successful Brazilian melamineware maker. It started as a contractor molder of Bakelite and Plaskon parts in 1936, then moved into molding thermoplastics like Polystyrene too. In the early 50s they started to produce their own line of bathroom accessories like toilet seats, stools and cabinets. They began molding melamineware in 1956, mostly copies of American designs. The difference was the bold use of applied decoration, very different from the sedate American counterparts. Shown above are a few examples; some other can be found in this collection. Goyana was in activity until the early 1990s, when Brazilian economic difficulties finally got it out of business.

Not sure if it's vintage, so I haven't put it in the shop yet. But I L-O-V-E the graphics, and have to do some research. Any comments would be appreciated!

I found this melamine/plastic children's bowl at the thrift. It was made by Gustavsbeg and designed by Stig Lindberg.
