So, we had another big rain a couple weeks back that washed out the little bridge across the ditch in front of my house to get to the mailbox. The city showed up to fix it, (yet again), and I had a front row seat for the action.

This is the old grade school here in Norris City. They said it was unsafe for kids, with asbestos in the walls, and petitioned to get the money to build a nice, new school just South of town. So, what happens with the old, unsafe building? Why, they send the mentally handicapped kids there now. Evidently, they figure it's good enough for those kids.

This is a panorama of Meteora mountains valley with town Kalambaka and village Kastraki. A composite photo, stack of 7 photos — 67 megapixels. Nikon Z5, Nikkor Z24-70 f4s.
Megapixel comparison of the HS20 EXR. Other than the resolution, the settings were identical on the camera.
A re-visit to my early digital past to show how great a small resolution camera (in modern day terms) can still cut the mustard in terms of picture quality.
This was shot with a Panasonic DMS-LC5, a 4 megapixel unit with an optical finder, and a Leica Summicron (f2 aperture) lens. The camera dates from 2002, and was also available in a slightly different skin as a Leica Digilux 1. The biggest drawbacks were that it offered no RAW image option, only JPEGs and TIFFs, and if you were after the best quality, the write speed on TIFFs was slow. And there have been no firmware upgrades ever for it...
I look back and wonder why we are racing to huge pixel densities and mediocre image quality?

The Kodak DC210 was the first megapixel CCD point and shoot camera, introduced in late 1997 for $900. I guess for the time the images taken weren't too bad, especially if you were taking shots for e.g. webpages of the time.
The camera incorporated features now standard in digital cameras, an LCD viewing screen on the back, easy to use controls, a thumbwheel and a removable memory card (Compact Flash).

15.1 Megapixels - The 15.1 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor is capable of recording up to 4752x3168 pixels with full 14-bit A/D conversion for extremely fine tonal gradation.
3.0" LCD - The camera features three Live View AF modes - Quick, Live and Face Detection Live mode - which can be used to capture still photos or video images.
DIGIC 4 - The next generation DIGIC Image Processor offers finer details and even more natural colour reproduction. It also includes Face Detection (which can detect and focus on up to 35 faces) and improved Auto Lighting Optimizer (that corrects for brightness and contrast automatically).
9 Point AF - The T1i utilizes a precise nine-point Autofocus (AF) system and AF sensor for enhanced subject detection. The cross-type AF measurement reads a wider variety of subject matter than conventional single-axis AF sensors and thus increases the new camera's ability to autofocus quickly and accurately when shooting still images.
Video Recording - The camera features 16:9 720p HD video capture at 30 fps as well as a Full HD 1080p video capture at 20 fps, and a third option to record 4:3 standard TV quality (SD) video capture at 640 x 480 pixels and 30 fps.
Creative Full Auto - This setting allows users to make adjustments before shooting while still in Automatic mode without needing to know the technical terms for settings only the desired effect.
Integrated Cleaning System - The self cleaning sensor unit's ultrasonic vibration routine is automatically activated whenever the camera is powered on or off, a special collar positioned around the sensor collects the loosened dust. Dust particles can also be removed via software, the dust delete data detection analyzes and maps the location and size of dust and can be automatically or manually removed from the image.
Originally fifty-one individual images taken with a Canon A640, this is a reduced version of the 344-megapixel image that resulted from stitching the 51 images into three rows of 17 images. That's a big picture. For instance, if you printed it at 300 dpi (the standard quality prints are expected to be made at) the resulting print would be 27.5 inches tall and 139 inches wide. Being able to print a 2 1/2 foot by 12-foot print that stands up to the same scrutiny as an 8 by 10 to me, is amazing. Take a moment to explore the full-size image at gigapan
