Well, I went back through over 100 photos tonight and re-edited them! I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

Food trucks in the Walgreens parking lot have become a regular thing. Kodak CX4300 digital camera with 3.2 megapixels I bought for $1.99.

NeXT 21-inch Megapixel colour monitor. It worked fine (bright, sharp) up to the day it suddenly died. As the light in the on/off button died as well, I suspect that the power source (a low tech part and I guess the easiest to repair) is broken.

Apparently the Chimpanzees at Oregon Zoo are given magazines to read, and the zookeepers say it stimulates them. I had never in my life before seen a Chimp reading anything, much less a National Geographic. I know this isn't the clearest shot I have ever taken, but a hand held sub-megapixel camera (Sony Mavic FD-75) was all I had to work with. The Chimp went way way back in his enclosure too. Anyway, it cracked me up. There was no trainer or keeper anywhere near. The Chimp had done this one his own, and he even was reading it the right direction. Taken 23 October 2009, it is comprised of three rows of eleven images stitched together to form one extra large image. At 28474 x 6365 px this makes it nearly 200 megapixels.
The view is from the top of the Pagoda at Kew Gardens looking out across the 300 acres of gardens with north being approximately straight ahead.

A panorama of Budapest taken from the Citadel.
This is one of those images that is really hard to properly share. The original panorama is 156 megapixels and in print would be almost 10 feet long. The parliment doesn't fit the screen at 100% zoom.

Well, I went back through over 100 photos tonight and re-edited them! I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
Because of Flickr's 10MiB limitation the uploaded picture is only one fourth of the original panorama.
You can explore the panorama in its maximum resolution using the google maps interface (javascript) or with zoomify (flash).
I had to build one of these extra large panorama as an exercize before leaving for vacation (where I hope to shoot more appealing stuff).
This was shot as 78 pictures (3 rows of 26) and stitched with autopano-sift, hugin, and enblend. (EXIF data from the first picture.)
The original panorama is 34704x6251 pixels. That's nearly 217 megapixels.
The uncompressed image file is 620MiB, the size of a CDROM.
PS: Yes, I've noticed there is dust on my sensor.

I was going to be cheeky and ask how you like my new Fuji GFX? But that would be a misleading question. Here's what I actually did:
To isolate the subject from a potentially cluttering background I used the Brenizer Method to -
- Using a hefty tripod
- Using a Sony A7
- Using a Nikon Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 K pre-Ai (Xenotar)
- Using a cheap macro slider bar to center the lens nodal point over the tripods swivel point
- Take 20 to 30 photos (several rows by several columns overlapping 30 to 50 percent)
Processing -
- Using RawTherapee
- Using a "linear" camera profile
- Process images
- Using Hugin "Simple" interface
- Load/align processed images
- Using Hugin "Advanced" interface
- Allow application to set (HUGE) image size
- Stitch image
- Using Rawtherapee
- Using "Film Simulation" Fuji Classic Negative
- Using Vignette
- Adjust Exposure/Brightness
- Lower LAB Contrast/Chroma
See? Easy Peasy. I'll probably write something on my blog about these as there are a lot of details that I considered in this process. Including considering why I used a relatively small aperture f/2.5 lens when wider apertures are normally used in this method.
