Digital Cameras have come a long way since then, but I still had a great deal of enjoyment with mine.
NOTE: Something has been bothering me about this picture. The rain covered pavement and the dry pavement are too finely separated. Rain doesn't just shut off like a faucet. Then I remembered that sometimes I drive right under irrigation equipment in order to get the water drop effect on my windshield. This wasn't rain after all, but a giant irrigation sprinkler. If one looks over by the rainbow, one can see the stream of water from the irrigation sprinkler.

Got my Nikon D800 on Friday and I am absolutely loving it! Didn't have a ton of time over the weekend so I did some tests around town. This was my first time trying out the Nikon 16-35mm f/4.0 lens, which immediately felt "right" to me, as I love shooting wide (my Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is one of my favorite lenses on my D80).
I was in this orchard and the dynamic range was out of control, so I decided to try some HDR captures and see how they came out. I'm blown away by the dynamic range capabilities of this camera already, processing these files is a complete joy (well, aside from the processing TIME, which is bogging down my computer a bit at the moment). The tonal range is just incredible. I was also impressed with how sharp these came out, given that I was shooting handheld (my Really Right Stuff L-Bracket will be here on Wednesday).
5-exposure HDR bracketed at 1-stop, Handheld, blended in Photomatix. Additional post-processing in Lightroom 4 (which I am also loving).
Computer Note: Windows Vista, Intel Core i7 920 Overclocked to 3.2GHz, 12GB of RAM.
Processing Time Comparison:
Blending 3 10 megapixel D80 images took about 90 seconds in Photomatix.
Blending 5 36 megapixel D800 images takes about 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Well, I went back through over 100 photos tonight and re-edited them! I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

Yet more photos and more final edits! I was up at 4:30 AM the past four days shooting sunrises! Awesome sunrises over Point Dume thie time of year in Malibu.
Then I spent all day today moving over 75 large photos into the gallery! Most of these are framed and matted with 13"x19" metallic prints and an 18"x24" mat and a 3" wood-grain black frame! They look awesome! Stop on by Bel Air Camera's Gallery downstairs if you are close to UCLA or in Westwood. Give me a head's up, and I will meet you there if I'm free.
I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!

(I know that this camera is not technically and antique, but I thought it would be nice to upload a picture of an old digital camera for a change).
This is the "HP Photosmart 620". It is an entry level digital camera that was released by Hewlett Packard in August of 2002, it originally retailed for about $229 USD.
The camera features a whopping 2.1 Megapixel resolution (which was considered very good at the time), Auto Focus with 3 times optical zoom, 4 times digital zoom, optical viewfinder, 1.5 inch color LCD screen, and a massive 8MB of internal flash memory with a expansion slot for SD cards up to 128MB. As well as three picture quality modes; "Good" (0.3MP), "Better" (2.0MP) and "Best" (2.1MP).
Overall this is a very basic point-and-shoot digital camera. The picture quality is not that bad for a 2.1 megapixel camera. I found this camera in a local thrift store for about $3-4.
Recently I came across another HP Photosmart 620, after purchasing it I soon discovered that it did not work. However, I then noticed that the outer chassis of the camera was in near perfect shape. So I switched the internal workings of the one that I already had that worked, with the chassis of the camera which did not work. This was actually quite simple to do as the internal workings of both cameras were modular, making them easy to remove, switch and install.

Yet more photos and more final edits! I was up at 4:30 AM the past four days shooting sunrises! Awesome sunrises over Point Dume thie time of year in Malibu.
Then I spent all day today moving over 75 large photos into the gallery! Most of these are framed and matted with 13"x19" metallic prints and an 18"x24" mat and a 3" wood-grain black frame! They look awesome! Stop on by Bel Air Camera's Gallery downstairs if you are close to UCLA or in Westwood. Give me a head's up, and I will meet you there if I'm free.
I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

I understand if we are reoccurring Pro's we will be able to renew our Pro Accounts. But I WAS CURIOUS: I looked at the email in the above photo 500,000 + photos sounds like a lot but then I noticed in the fine print "6.5 megapixels are what most Smart Phone photos are" so I wondered how this compared to my camera photos. One of my camera photos is 6.79 MB.....OK how many MB are in a megapixel....wellllllll they are two different things....there are 1,000,000 megabytes in a terabyte. If I divide 1,000,000 by 6.79 I get 143,472.02 NOT 537,731..... Megapixels and megabytes are not directly related. Pixels are used to describe the resolution of an image, whereas bytes are used to describe a measure of data. mega- is a prefix used to describe how much of them there are (1 million).......I am not that great at math.....what am I missing???????

36 megapixels + 200mm, low noise high ISO means I did this all the way across inside the back of lower deck where you buy beer and still got a 12mp usable shot for them :)

Yet more photos and more final edits! I was up at 4:30 AM the past four days shooting sunrises! Awesome sunrises over Point Dume thie time of year in Malibu.
Then I spent all day today moving over 75 large photos into the gallery! Most of these are framed and matted with 13"x19" metallic prints and an 18"x24" mat and a 3" wood-grain black frame! They look awesome! Stop on by Bel Air Camera's Gallery downstairs if you are close to UCLA or in Westwood. Give me a head's up, and I will meet you there if I'm free.
I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)

Coolpix 600 from 1998. One megapixel sensor, 8MB CF card, images up to 1024 x 768 pixels.
Coolpix 900 from 1998. 1.3 megapixel sensor, 4MB CF card, images up to 1280 x 960 pixels. Nikkor 3x zoom lens 5.8-17.4mm f2.4-3.6.
Coolpix 700 from 1999. Two megapixel sensor, 8MB CF card, images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. Nikkor prime lens 6.5mm f2.6, 5-element multi-coated.
Coolpix 950 from 1998. 2 megapixel sensor, 8MB CF card, images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. Nikkor 3x zoom lens 7-21mm f2.6-4.

The models were tall, thin, fit, and gorgeous beach goddesses! A blond and a brunette with long, long silky hair! Poseidon would approve! If he were shooting them, he'd want to capture simultaneous photographic stills and video at the same time too.
