Nikon D800E Dr. Elliot McGucken Fine Art Photography for Los Angeles Gallery Show!
Yet more photos and more final edits! I was up at 4:30 AM the past four days shooting sunrises! Awesome sunrises over Point Dume thie time of year in Malibu.
Then I spent all day today moving over 75 large photos into the gallery! Most of these are framed and matted with 13"x19" metallic prints and an 18"x24" mat and a 3" wood-grain black frame! They look awesome! Stop on by Bel Air Camera's Gallery downstairs if you are close to UCLA or in Westwood. Give me a head's up, and I will meet you there if I'm free.
I thought I was done a couple days ago for December's LA Gallery show, but art is never done until it's done, and even then. . . Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for December's Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" whihc is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!

The universe itself is God and the universal outpouring of its soul. --Chrysippus (Quoted by Cicero in De Natura Deorum)
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats

Yup...its here..today i got my new toy ..its a Canon 1Ds Mark III 21.1 megapixels. full frame sensor..5 frames per second. Even at ISO 3200 i tested and there was no noise..impressive...
I also got 3new lenses to feed this hungry monster..
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Zoom Lens
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens
The question of the day is how long will it take me to learn this camera considering the fact the i hardly read manuals..i guess i am just gonna play with my new toy...sounds like fun so far. I might have to order a cart to lug my new camera and lens. boy everything weighs a ton.
My story of digital photography is not that old. Got my first digital camera, a Sony DSC F 828 three years ago and things went crazy. Every day i got sucked into digital photography more and more. Got my first DSLR camera 4 months ago. A Sony alpha A350 . itās a great camera but it took me 3 days to realize its good for what I have paid but itās not a pro and yes it will take miss Sony some time to come up with a real pro system. Sorry Sony guys.
Sony went back to Best buy after one week. Now questions was Canon or Nikon. And answer was not that simple since both are excellent but my research made me realize that no doubt canon is the leader. Sorry Nikon guys.
I got my first canon DSLR 40D four months ago. itās an amazing camera , no question about that. But i guess its time for an upgrade....lol

In this photo you can see the puddle from the previous photo. It's the larger one on the left. This is also what I was after that morning. I wanted a large stitched panorama including not only the beautiful Buffalo City Hall but also more to the left and right around the McKinley Monument in the middle of the Niagara Square (can a square be round?).

I also wanted to minimize the shadows on the building, and not to blow out the sky. Thus, I was there rather early before sunrise. This is the first panorama from the morning that ended up at around 89 megapixels in full size (built from 27 files). The foreground flowers had to be pulled out of dark shadows but it was not too bad and not a problem with the RAW files.
The low levels of light combined with stopped down aperture are apparent in the foliage motion blur. Not sure why the EXIF is showing 13 mm for my focal length, I remember setting my lens at 35 mm to provide for less distortion allowing for easier stitching.
I was lucky to capture this cool couple out enjoying themselves walking (in the cold!) but having perhaps more fun than I was. I went out to capture some Christmas fun at 2.7 megapixels. Because film isnāt challenging enough. Nikon D1 digital camera, still a pro, even if it isnāt up to modern āHypeā. It can get the job done. These were shot at ISO 200 and f/22. Using a Kodak DKL Schneider-Kreuznach Retina Xenon 50mm f/1.9 lens adapted to Nikon. That lens is late 1960s vintage repurposed from a retired Kodak Instamatic Reflex 126 camera. I meant to set the shutter speed as well, but in the end, I forgot and left the D1 to its own devices. These are Downtown, Ogden, Utah shot on Boxing Day 2021.

This is the "HP Photosmart 120". It is a simple, point-and-shoot digital camera released in the early 2000s as part of Hewlett Packard's line of Photosmart digital cameras. The 120 was released in 2002 and sports a jaw dropping 1 Megapixel resolution!
Specs:
-1 MP CMOS Censor
-1 inch backlit LCD screen
-Compact Flash compatible
-4 MB internal memory can hold up to 10 pictures (in "best" mode)
-Requires 4 AA batteries
While the camera itself is very simple to use, the image quality is not great even for a 1 MP camera. Colours appear dull and picture are overly grainy. The image quality seems to vary depending on the amount of light available. Outdoors, in bright and sunny conditions seem to yeild the sharpest pictures. While pictures taken indoors tend to look dark and pixilated (perhaps this is the result of some sort of automatic exposure feature in which the camera adjusts for indoor conditions? - i.e. - higher ISO and/or shutter speed to compensate for lower light). The built-in flash isn't much help either as it had a tendency to make pictures washed out.
I think this was one of the first digital cameras I ever saw in stores. There was a camera store near me called Blacks, and one time there was a salesman giving a demonstration, boasting about all the advantages of digital photography. The camera cost around $400 (at the time you could buy an entry-level 35mm SLR for the same amount) and I was not impressed with the picture quality. It was not until digital cameras got into the 5-6 MP range that I finally bought one.

My dirty car in super hi-res 189 Megapixels.
The stitching was done automatically by PS. No manual fixes applied. I found two minor inconsistencies in stitching lines, but they are out focus and hard to find. Overall very good job done by PS. I didn't expect that. I shot it using a monopod, manual focus was set, the focus is on the headlamp. Unfortunately in these conditions is very hard to create a full focused car photo.

Photos taken on a Fujifilm MX-1200 1.3 megapixel camera. Came across them whilst looking through my old photo archives.
A quick edit in lightroom and I am very impressed with what that camera caught.
Shot from the crowd, by me, with no experience on using cameras at all.

The palace, which houses several important museums, was built in the second half of the 15th century probably on a project of Filippo Brunelleschi for Luca Pitti, but was unfinished at his death in 1472. The original building, formed by two floors and the ground floors, with only five windows on each tloor, was purchased in 1550 by Eleonora da Toledo, the wife of the Grand Duke Cosimo I de'Medici, thus becoming the official residence of the family. For this reason it was widened and changed, in 1560 by Bartolomeo Ammannati and at the beginning of the 17th century by Giulio and Alfonso Parigi. The lather two architects gave the facade its present day aspect, with the only exception of the two lateral projecting pavilions that were built in the age of the Lorraine family and completed during the first half of the 19th century by Paoletti and Poccianti, who also built the Palazzina della Meridiana, added on to the rear section of the palace Downlooking the garden.
Most of the internal decoration was also executed during the 17th century by Giovanni da San Giovanni, Pietro da Cortona, il Volterrano, Antonio Domenico Gabbiani and Sebastiano Ricci.
As regards the domestic life inside the palace, we know that it was the home of several components of the family who were distributed in different private apartments. The rooms on the left wing belonged to the Grand Duke, while those on the right side were used by the heir. The lateral wings housed the apartments of their wives. The rooms on the second floor contained the large library, while the side rooms were used for the children. The left side on the ground floor housed the apartment that the Grand Duke used in summer.
Today, the palace and the Boboli gardens house the Palatine Gallery, the Silver Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Costume Gallery, the Porcelain Museum and the Museum of Carriages.

Source:
Shot with a Canon EOS 550D, f2.8 17mm
Ten landscape captures across the panorama
Three exposures per capture, -2ev, 0, +2ev
Store all 30 images in RAW format
Preparation in Canon Digital Photo Pro 3.13.20:
Apply Digital Lens Optimisation (this is brilliant!)
Apply lens distortion correction (to aid stitching)
Apply prehipheral illumination correction (to reduce banding)
Apply noise reduction
Standardise white balance
Export all 30 images as 16-bit TIFFs
Tone-Mapping:
Open and merge each triple exposure set in Photomatix Pro 4.2
Apply selective de-ghosting as necessary (the people were moving)
Apply tone mapping (details enhancer) with mid-smoothing, high detail contrast, high luminosity, and low white point and black point (to preserve highlights and shadows)
Save outputs as 8-bit TIFF (I only have 8-bit image processing software, until the release of GIMP 2.10)
Stitching:
Stitch the 10 TIFFs together using Autostitch (I had problems with Hugin this time), using maximum quality settings
Manually correct stitching errors (parallax issues in foreground)
Post-processing:
Open the tone-mapped image in GIMP 2.8 (freeware)
Create masks for sky, islands, sea and foreground
Tone curve adjustments on sky (increase contrast, drop brightness to preserve highlights, lighten, increase gamma)
Graded tone-curve adjustments on everything else (raise contrast, brightness and gamma)
Tweak colour balance and saturation of all elements
Wavelet noise reduction on all layers
Soften and blend mask edges
Export as 8-bit jpg
