The Fuggerhaus in Donauwörth dates back to 1539. It is located at the Reichsstraße, a street that was a main Bavarian traffic artery in medieval times.

The Torretta Pepoli, of eclectic taste, is one of the most representative historical monuments of the city of Erice (Tp)
Built between 1872 and 1880, it was used by Count Agostino Pepoli to welcome literary friends of the time and as a place of study for his archaeological research.
Its unprecedented architectural style recalls Moorish models, medieval architecture with vaguely liberty references.
The Torretta has been open to the public since 2014 as an interactive museum and has been named Observatory of Peace and Lighthouse of the Mediterranean.

Thank you www.flickr.com/photos/dorchesterdorset/ (Tranter Dewy) for researching and enlightening me.....this is the white marble tomb of Abraham Blackleech Gent who died in 1639 and his wife Gertrude. The tomb is situated at the east end of the north aisle in Gloucester Cathedral. According to an article in the British Library the two recumbent effigies are most likely by Samuel Baldwin, and are of good quality with carefully carved hands, faces and costumes.
At their feet is this inscription:-
To the happy Memorie of Abraham Blackleech Gent. Sonne of William Blackleech, Esq. a Man not only generally beloved in this Life, but deservedly endeared to Posterity, by rare Examples of seldom'd pattern'd Piety expressed in his Bounty, to Saint Paul's in London, to this Church, to the Highways about, and the Poor in this City ----- Who laying aside the vileness of Mortalitie, was admitted to the glory of eternity.

Fortifications Carcassonne is a medieval architectural-urbanist complex. On the hill where the fortifications of Carcassonne are now, there was a fortification before Roman rule (VI century BC).
At the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th century the settlement was strengthened by the construction of a long defensive wall of about 1200 m. Fortifications consisting of two lines of walls and a castle extend to a total length of 3 km.

Fortyfikacje Carcassonne to średniowieczny zespół architektoniczno-urbanistyczny. Na wzgórzu, gdzie teraz znajdują się fortyfikacje Carcassonne, jeszcze przed okresem panowania rzymskiego (VI wiek p.n.e) istniało grodzisko.
W końcu III i początku IV wieku osadę wzmocniono przez budowę muru obronnego długiego na około 1200 m. Fortyfikacje składające się z dwóch linii murów i zamku rozciągają się na całkowitą długość 3 km.
This telephoto zoom allows us to admire the castle of Pierreclos at leisure. This medieval fortress was built from the 12th century. You can clearly see the chapel of the castle, a superb Romanesque tower dating from this period.

The area of the town of Óbidos is located on a hilltop, encircled by a fortified wall. Óbidos remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture; its streets, squares, walls and its castle are a popular tourist destination. The castle now houses a pousada. The municipality is also home to the famous Praia D'el Rey golf complex, one of the top golf resorts in Europe, and Royal Óbidos - Spa & Golf Resort.
Each July Óbidos castle hosts a traditional 'Medieval Market'.

I cannot believe its over a decade since I visited Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire given its relatively close by to me . Mind you in Yorkshire we are spoilt for choice if you want to visit historic monasteries as well as Fountains there are other historic abbeys at Jervaulx, Bolton, Whitby, Rievaulx, Kirkham and Byland all well worth a visit.
Fountains abbey sits on the banks of the River Skell in North Yorkshire. It is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution, by order of Henry VIII, in 1539.
The medieval architecture is superb, including a surviving 168 ft. tower. It is regarded as one of the finest monastic sites in Europe and is classed as a World Heritage site.

The origin dates back to the 13th century. The castle was constantly expanded over several centuries until it reached its present form.

Vitré is a town located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany, France. It has a population of approximately 20,000 people and is known for its medieval architecture, including a castle, ramparts, and half-timbered houses.
During World War II, Vitré was occupied by German forces and its residents experienced hardships and restrictions imposed by the occupying army. The town saw heavy fighting between the German army and the Allies, and was eventually liberated by American forces in August 1944.
The people of Vitré played a significant role in the resistance movement during the war, and their sacrifices and efforts are remembered and honored to this day.

Let us admire once more the castle of Pierreclos, built from the 12th century. Part of the roof is in polychrome tiles. This type of roof is characteristic of Burgundy. We see it in particular at the hospices of Beaune or at the royal monastery of Brou near Bourg en Bresse.

Admirons une fois de plus le château de Pierreclos, bâti à partir du 12ème siècle. Une partie du toit est en tuiles polychromes. Ce type de toit est cartactéristique de la Bourgogne. On le voit notamment aux hospices de Beaune ou au monastère royal de Brou à coté de Bourg en Bresse.

Le palais de la Berbie est un ancien château urbain des évêques d'Albi, construit en 1228 et 1308. Il a été classé monument historique en 1862. Depuis 2010, il est classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO par son appartenance à l'ensemble architectural médiéval de la cité épiscopale d'Albi. Il voisine la cathédrale Sainte-Cécile pour laquelle il a éprouvé certaines techniques architecturales. Il partage avec elle et bon nombre de bâtiments de la vieille ville la brique foraine rouge.
The Berbie Palace is an old urban castle of the bishops of Albi, built between 1228 and 1308, which stands in the French commune of Albi, in the southwest of France.
Built during the second half of the 13th century, it was first intended as a prestigious residence. It then became a fortress, facing the hostility of the Albigensian population, both economically and religiously, with the Cathar heresy. Subsequently, it was several times revised by the bishops of the city between the 16th and 18th centuries, gaining in comfort without completely losing the appearance of austere fortress.
It was declared a French historical monument in 1862. Since 2010, it is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by its membership in the medieval architectural complex of the episcopal city of Albi. It adjoins the Cathedral of Saint Cecilia for which it has tested some architectural techniques. It shares with it and many of the buildings of the old city the red brick fairground.

The preserved curtain is a walk with pergola trellises that leads to a counter-terrace and a high terrace (...) The whole offers a breathtaking view of the Tarn, the right bank and the Old Bridge, elements included in the classified perimeter of the episcopal city. The turrets-buttress on which were created small belvederes, host the statues of ancient style acquired in the 18th century by the cardinal of Bernis.

The historic town of Bernkastel-Kues, a popular tourist destination in the well-known wine growing centre on the Middle Moselle.
Tewkesbury Abbey is world-renowned for being one of the UK’s greatest examples of medieval architecture. Its striking Norman tower and long nave have dominated the Tewkesbury skyline for nearly 900 years.
The Crypt, that was built in Norman times (completed in 1089) is situated underneath Worcester Cathedral. Handheld, Zeiss ExoLens (Wide-Angle), gently tickled in Snapseed on iPad Pro.

The delicate Chapter House, where the day to day business of the Minster was run, was begun in about 1260. It is a superb example of the Gothic Decorated style which was then in vogue.
The entrance to the Chapter House is along a fairly low passage, which gives no hint of what is to come. You pass through a twin arched door, where a wonderfully carved Madonna and child stand, and enter into a circular space ringed with low stalls, above which soar traceried stained glass windows that can rival the famous 5 Sisters for delicacy and lightness.
The windows lead your eye upwards, where far above your head the marvelous ribbed vault of the ceiling is enough to make even the most footsore of tourists gasp.
The ribbed wooden roof is truly a masterpiece of medieval architecture, with colourfully painted panels and a profusion of gilded bosses (see photos below). Unlike other chapter houses, such as that of Wells Cathedral, there is no central column to support the roof vaulting; the ceiling is "free-standing" if you will, seeming almost to hang in space.
The stalls which line the chapter house are topped with a wonderful profusion of gargoyles - some humorous, some depicting souls in torment.

Warmont Castle is located north of the village along the main road. Huys te Warmont is built on the site of a medieval castle dating from 1250, incorporating traces of medieval architecture.The original timber structures were replaced by buildings that were subsequently damaged by fire in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries and rebuilt each time on the old foundations.A 16th-century drawing makes it possible to reconstruct the medieval original, when the castle consisted of a square ground-plan of four wings and four corner towers set around an interior court, the whole surrounded by a moat. The living-quarters were in the north and east wings. The massive west tower was once assumed to have been the keep, but the thickness of its walls and its dimensions are too small for this purpose. In 1629 the castle was given a new entrance range by Salomon de Bray, featuring pilasters and a broad pediment. The south tower, originally octagonal, was replaced by a square one after 1650. Owing to the various rebuilding projects, Warmond acquired an irregular character in the course of the centuries. In 1780 the castle was extensively rebuilt. Floor levels and the proportions of the rooms were altered, and the walls were stuccoed. Medieval remains were hidden by new walls and plasterwork; de Bray’s additions disappeared.

A city originally started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Leie. It was one of the richest cities in Late Middle Ages, when the mercantile zone was highly developed. Here occurs the ten-day-long Ghent Festival (Gentse Feesten in Dutch), which is held every year and attended by about 1–1.5 million visitors. Ghent is home to many people of foreign origin and immigrants. Much of the city's medieval architecture remains intact and is remarkably well preserved and restored.

Where I come from is Zurich, the biggest city in Switzerland. The city was founded in its present form at the end of the Middle Ages, between 1000 and 1200, and gained imperial freedom in the 13th century. Many narrow alleys, like this one, bear witness to the medieval architecture.

The bastion of the Tower of Belem juts out into the harbor of Lisbon, Portugal. It is a jewel of Manueline architecture built in the early 16th century of white limestone during the reign of Manuel I and granted UNESCO Heritage status in 1983. It is an iconic landmark of Portuguese history.
