Lane County Gypsy Moth Eradication Program (mid-1980s):

The Oregon Department of Agriculture is the lead agency for the gypsy moth detection program in Oregon. Agencies involved in the eradication program included the Oregon Department of Agriculture, USDA APHIS, USDA Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry, and private timber companies.

Three gypsy moths were initially detected in 1982 in the town of Lowell in west-central Oregon. These moths were caught in pheromone-baited traps during surveys conducted annually by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. In 1983, four more moths were caught in Lowell. After the trapping program was intensified in 1984, over 19,000 moths were caught in or near Lowell.

In the late spring of 1985, 226,045 acres were treated with Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki. Later that fall, the intensive trapping program identified additional infested areas in the same general area. Followup treatments with Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki were applied in 1986 (189,011 acres), 1987 (7,235 acres), and 1988 (2,995 acres). In addition to the aerial application of biological insecticides, State and federal quarantines were established in 1985 covering ~1,200 square miles to prevent people from moving gypsy moths out of the infested area. No further treatments were required after 1988. The total cost of the Lane County eradication program (including detection, eradication, and trapping) from 1984 to 1989 was about $18,000,000.

5.1.14: The title just came to me now (17:16pm). "Free as a Bird". Random ... but not. Capture of bird random, but fortuitous. Capture of flag, not ... of course! - 28th Street between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenues. Coming back from Zuccotti Park. Lower Broadway. Near Zuccotti Park. I couldn't resist. "Federated Crane". Found all sorts of visual ironies during my trip! For a photojournalist, it was like being a kid in a candy store. You just always have to have your eyes peeled open, on the watch out for that moment or thing that otherwise would go un-noticed. But you know that it should be revealed. It's not just about the big "Ah-ha" moments or things. It's about the little moments or details too. Sometimes it's the little moments or "things" that lead to bigger ones. Loved the ad here, and the reason for my taking this shot. Not what's below the tagline, but the tagline itself. "End The Debate." Now it's probably no longer, and would anyone remember it if it weren't for a photo to remind them? The city streets are full of "well placed" contextual ads, if you pay attention. Sometimes the Media Needle can't have an effect when people don't believe the product to begin with. Even with numerous commercials and social outreach in an attempt to show that BP is trying to help, according to thenewyorktimes, "Oil Spill's blow to image may eclipse cost." This means that the image is so severe that no matter how much good sensationalism they try to create for themselves, the people will never see them the same way again.

The making of Ustand sultan khan, 40th international record

I took a photo of this building when I went down to visit Zuccotti Park the first time. It was on 9.25.11. The photo of the building made it look extremely attractive, but there is an ugly story behind its development. This would never occur to you if all you had seen of it was my prior capture. However, this image offers another perspective on the issue. Study the building's placement. It's situated in the oldest part of Manhattan, surrounded by historical landmark buildings. The neighborhood residents fought for years to prevent the erection of this building in the middle of this landmark area, but lost in the end. Not only does it destroy the look and feel of this landmarked and one of the oldest and most beautiful areas in Manhattan, but it is much taller than ALL other buildings around it. Does this make sense to you? This photo is part of a photo series that tells the visual story of my trip to Zuccotti Park on this day. Each photo in the series contributes meaning and significance to the story. Taken minutes around the corner from our hotel, The Brittania International Hotel. One of my ever popular "Life IS for Living" poses upon arrival in Londons Canary Wharf. I have to say the buildings are amazing..felt at times as though we were in somewhere like New York or Dallas. As you can see we were having the time of our lives..we didnt want the weekend to end, still..Life is for living and we can always come again.

The day after Gari`s concert we ate a hearty breakfast and went into the city where I took Fluffy to my favourite Sloane Square and Peter Jones department store. Photos of that to follow in a day or two as we wish for these first few photographs to be a Tribute to Gari Glaysher. There arent any photo`s of Garis concert as the evening was filmed by special television crews so we will all be able to view it on our screens as well as hear the cd. I will let you all know when it happens for Gari.
