"The Lunch Rush"

 

Lunch at the Institute is always a bit of a blur - what you see is the kitchen + "lunchroom" in their entirety. No microwave, but a fridge, hot water dispenser, sink and plenty of plates and bowls fill the tiny kitchen. A very nice woman comes in a few times a week with vegan, gluten-free soups for sale too.

This vegetable could also have been for the letter C. For some reason in British English they are "courgettes" (from the French) but in US English they are "zucchini" (from the Italian). Once more we are divided by a common language. :-)

A new partnership between the College of DuPage Culinary Arts program and Alexian Brothers Hospice combines cooking instruction with support for men and women moving past the death of their spouses. Every semester, David Kramer, Associate Professor of Culinary Arts, and Laura Lerdal, Culinary Market Supervisor and Lab Coordinator, present “Cooking for 1,” a free demonstration or lab that focuses on cooking techniques for one. Participants also have a chance to help each other as they learn to live on their own.
