A circa-1872 building, with an addition in 1920, that previously housed a boot and shoe store and the G.H. Frese Jewelry and Clock store; the Widman Print Shop occupied the building in the 1920's and 1930's.
The office building to its left was built in the 1930's-1940's as a professional office building.
The building to the right with the extended balcony was built in 1860 for a dry cleaning business. In the mid-1900's it was the Decoy Inn. It was restored in 1973 and is currently the home of the local chamber of commerce.

South of McGregor "prime" is this pyramidally shaped drainage structure. It channels water flowing down the bluffside through a berm.
I tried to frame this one to achieve a Kubrickesque monolith feel.
Built circa 1967. McGregor was founded in 1847 as MacGregor's Landing by Alexander MacGregor, a distant relative of Scottish outlaw and folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor. The town was incorporated in 1857 when the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad completed its line to Prairie du Chien, directly across the Mississippi River from McGregor, making the town a hub for grain trade and transportation across the river where it could be transported further by train.

Here is a view looking south from the McGregor depot. The track heading to the left is just a spur track.
The building on the right was constructed circa 1850 to house the O.C. Buck Mortuary with his living quarters on the upper level. The Interstate Power office was also located here at one time, as was furniture and farm implement dealers and a tailor shop.
Buck also constructed the adjoining building to the left in 1860 to house a furniture store. Morticians commonly owned furniture stores until the mid-20th century.

Built circa 1886 by the State Bank of McGregor, which closed during the Great Depresssion. The building housed various law offices over the years and now houses the Central State Bank with a bed and bath suite on the upper floor.
