Headstone of Fred "Sonic" Smith`s grave., guitarist of MC5 and Sonic`s Rendezvous Band. Sept. 14th, 1949- November 4th, 1994. I was told by the cemetery historian...the headstones on Fred`s grave came from Ireland. Elmwood Cemetery. Detroit,Michigan. February 17th, 2017.
The underground band, known for their LP 'Kick Out the Jams,' play a concert at Post 1136 at an unspecified date.
Darwen,Jubilee tower. Just caught reflected sun like a lighthouse.
Taken from moving car miles away on the M65. The octagonal Jubilee Tower on Beacon Hill, overlooking the town of Darwen, was completed in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and also to celebrate the victory of the local people for the right to access the moor.
It was opened to the public on September 22 1898. 85ft in height, walkers can climb to the top of the tower via the internal staircase to admire the breathtaking views of both the surrounding moorland, and the slightly further afield sights of Yorkshire, Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower, Cumbria, the Isle of Man, and North Wales. A splendid view of Darwen can also be obtained. The 300 foot India Mills chimney can clearly be seen. This took 14 years to complete at a cost of £14,000 & was opened in 1868. In recent years Peregrine falcons have successfully nested at the top of the chimney.

Procedentes de la misma ciudad -Detroit- que los MC5, me gustaría recomendar un disco del grupo The Stooges. Quizás, por este nombre, puede que alguien no los recuerde pero... y si les digo que su cantante era Iggy Pop; Ah! eso es otra cosa, ¿verdad?. Pues presten atención a este, su segundo LP publicado en el año 1970, y titulado "Fun House". Para mí, el mejor álbum del grupo.
While the West Coast was groovin' to the sounds of the "Summer of Love" in 1967, Detroit was pumping out a hard-driving, gritty and raw sound that was "Louder Than Love." The Grande Ballroom stood as the epicenter of the Detroit rock music scene that spawned in the late ‘60s. Serving as the starting point for bands such as MC5, Iggy & The Stooges, Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes and more, the Grande not only influenced local Detroit musicians but inspired bands from all over the U.S. and Great Britain. Legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, Cream, B.B. King, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and the Who soon began to grace the stage at the Grande on a regular basis. This story is about the hallowed halls that started it all, told by the artists who helped create its epic stature.

Hunx and His Punx has a bit of a reputation for pouring on the gay panic in live shows and he seemed to single out the straights as he came over to me and thrust his crotch in my face. Twice. Before the first song started.
This reputation was pretty much upheld. Hunx and His Punx is Hunx of Gravytrain!!! backed by four musicians in the time honored rhythm, lead guitars, drummer and bassist with occasional keyboard work. Hunx takes the role of front man / provocateur very seriously keeping up a constant line of effete banter in between songs. “How many gay people are in the audience tonight?,” he asked early on, and when lots of hands went up, he seemed a little shocked. “That’s way too many!”
Hilariously, there was one girl who may not have gotten the memo because she was constantly reaching for Hunx and his junx and she managed to bury her face in his groin.
The music was good. Bubblegum garage with not a lick out of place. It was immaculate as his pencil-thin John Waters mustache. Think Chantels or The Shangri-Las spectrum of 1960s musical adoration rather than the Motor City violence of The Stooges or MC5. Pop hooks and clean, familiar structure to the point where you can sing along to the second chorus after you’ve heard the first.
It was good, surprisingly clean fun, considering Hunx at one point did poppers on stage and had to sit down having forgotten where he was and what he was doing there.
