Last night felt really cold, so cold I decided to light a fire to keep warm. So this morning I understood just why it was so cold when I opened the blinds and saw the mountain dusted with snow!! First snowfall of the year.
One of my kids took the X-Wing out for a blast today - luckily I managed to get a photo as he did a low fly by along Taroona Beach.
May the fourth be with you ...
Taking my X-Wing out for a spin out of boredom during isolation. Was good to get out of the galaxy for a while.

How could I resist? Obviously: I couldn't.
But offered with complete sincerity (cheesiness aside); couldn't we all use some Yoda wisdom/blessing in our lives?

Captured in April 2017 and a fine example of the random encounters you can find when shooting street photography. Happy Star Wars Day my Flickr friends! No Jedi mind trick required. :)
Happy Star Wars day! My take on "May the fourth be with you". If you're not familiar with Star Wars day you can read about it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Day
Still plenty of Gorse in flower here. Our Covid-19 restrictions are being eased soon so hopefully I'll be able to search the local hills for Dwarf (Western) Gorse (which flowers during late Summer/Autumn) and this will be my year to find out if kissing ever does go out of fashion or if Gorse really does flower every month of the year somewhere in Ireland.

I promise I am not a 'Star Wars' nerd ... but I do know people who are but I will protect their anonymity and not name shame them here.

Single exposure, real reflection, minor Lightroom adjustments, no content adds/ deletes/ overlays/swaps, no Photoshop. I prefer the time outdoors shooting, and not to spend more than about 5 minutes computer/post-processing time per photo, so as much as possible has to be optimized in-camera!
You can always revisit the file to rework the edit, but you can't re-take the image once you're home. Get it right the first time; the best moments and their conditions will never be repeated again!

Freddy pauses in his search for things to kill. Last couple of days have seen 2 lizards, a really large grasshopper and a small baby bird brought into the house. All creatures were saved except for the bird.

All of my workshops this summer will include some night shooting/instruction, so drop by my Web site www.JeffSullivanPhotography.com to see if you can join me to efficiently produce unique work with me in unique settings! Milky Way shots are a dime a dozen these days, you can capture those with sub-optimal technique.
Milky Way reflection shots, without resorting to faking the reflection, take a bit more attention to technique. Will you want to move on to other astrophotography subjects: comets, meteor showers... if so, make sure you sure you choose a workshop leader who pursues a LOT of them! www.flickr.com/photos/jeffreysullivan/albums/721576319588...

Happy Star Wars Day!
(This may appear on your screens on May the third in most of the world, but it is already 12-40 am on May the fourth here in Australia at the time of posting - we are a long long time ahead, in a country far far away!) ; )
A hand held 5 image focus stack of a 3.75 inch Star Wars storm-trooper figurine or action figure. The out of focus red background is actually his favourite red 1/18th scale Dodge Challenger diecast model car (which he stole from me).

Today is supposedly Star Wars day. The 4th of May / May the Fourth / May the Force be with you! Get it?
I can't believe it's six years since I posted this. In those days I was still mildly interested in the supercars that we deliver by air freight around the world. (who knew that we load these in the hold under where you sit on a long haul flight?) I used to photograph all the best ones, this one being a Lamborghini Aventador with its whacky "Star Wars" styling. I just had to put a Stormtrooper in it!
How things have changed since then. I'm now more interested in the sort of things in life that money can't buy, things like slate quarries and mountain goats! And it seems that in roaming around the greyness of Snowdonia I reckon have become more interesting than when I thought I looked cool posing in a supercar.
Since it's May 4.
Single exposure selfie captured using a ten-second delay to open the shutter. I lit one light, turned it off, moved to face myself, lit it again, and voila!

Posted this on Instagram and Facebook already, but figured I'd upload it here too.
Maybe a Lego upload will come today as well..

The TIE fighter, mass produced, cheap, light, fast and dispensable. A menacing and terrifying adversary.
Hey all, it's been a while. I hope you are all well despite this Corona thing. I have been quieter than usual, partially because of the big C, it is a major distraction, but for the most part I have been building this thing. I thought the TIE fighter cockpit I finished earlier was time a consuming section but when I got to the wings... oh boy! I had no idea what I got myself into. The model is about done now however, it should have been done by yesterday, May the 4th, but it still isn't quite finished. It only needs a few minor weathering touches here and there, that's all. While waiting for the paint to properly cure for the last bit, I can't stop sneaking a photo or two.
I've wanted a TIE fighter for a long time. A proper studio scale replica would have been ideal, but I thought I'd try an alternate route this time just to see how it works. This is actually a Hasbro toy. I altered it heavily to make the appearance more like the real thing. The proportions are all over the place and the details don't match, but I tried to emulate the feels, the rhythm and volume of the assorted details so that it would pass as a believable photography model. Despite the ridiculous amount of work, I am quite happy how it turned out.
And the gifs, memes keep a coming.

May the Fourth be with you, for those who celebrate! It's Star Wars Day, and I thought it would be perfect time to make a tribute to Rey! :D
"Rey who?"
Well, I really like the ending of Episode IX, no matter what haters say. I dunno why some fans are so gatekeeping of the Skywalkers family, seems they don't get the meaning of the scene at all. Anyway, if she would reply "Palpatine", I also would be happy, cause I like that plot twist, and actually her music scene hinted at that from the very first film (there's a cool video explaining that).
By the way, I already made a tribute to Dark Rey, because as a Sith, I really appreciate all things Sith, even their Light Side descendants. xD
I didn't like Episode VII at first (too much like Episode IV), I had mixed opinion of Episode VIII (very impressed by throne room scene, but hated Luke acting not like Luke), but Episode IX saved the Disney Trilogy for me (by many things, one of which is making Rey and Kylo a Force dyad, which means something like brother and sister through the Force, and NOT a couple, thank goodness!). But regardless of my opinion of the new films, I always liked how Daisy Ridley played Rey (I was going to say "I always liked her character", but that's not quite true - in my review for Episode VII I did call her Mary Sue, but my opinion of her grew better in later films, and also they explained her powers). I can't wait for return of Daisy Ridley in "Star Wars: New Jedi Order" film, which is currently in pre-production. :)
This particular minifigure is also a very special for me (but that's another story), so it was a matter of time before she would appear in my pictures. :) I mean, as Rey, because her face has already appeared few times as one of my characters. ;) But for 7 years I had no particular idea for a scene with Rey until now.
There's no deserts in metropolis, but recently I found a sand "mountain" and took a really cool picture with my dragon. As I said back then, it's probably not a good idea to take pictures with minifigures here, but not for the reason I thought. The real reason is it hard to get them stand straight, when they're actually on 45 (or something) degrees relative to the ground, so this picture was hard to take. Anyway, a few days ago I remembered I have a tiny Star Destroyer, and I immediately thought about that cool scene from "The Force Awakens", and that's how I finally knew how to make a tribute to Rey. So when yesterday I realised it's Star Wars Day and I forgot to prepare anything I decided I should return to the place and take a picture now and not on Sunday/next week, as I intended.
Thanks for reading, and also you can check out those two absolutely epic covers of Rey's theme:
