This photo shows detail of the Kelsey matrices for "Abbey Condensed". In the capital 'O' of this matrix the manager of Kelsey's casting department, a Mr. Saunders, apparently added his initials "C.E.S." (in reverse reading). Also note the matrix was electroplated from a piece of type that appears to be originally created by an engraved punch. Note the hand cutting of the counter with a tool measured to be approx. 0.015" wide.

Construction of Erise’s gothic-style Chiesa Matrice (Mother Church) probably began in 1312 using material from the ruins of the pagan temple of Venus. Next to the church is the bell tower, also known as the Tower of King Frederick, built at the end of the 13th century on the ruins of a previous watchtower.
Erice is one of Italy’s many fortified hilltop towns and has been an important regional center for at least 2000 years. It is strategically located, with splendid views over the sea and surrounding countryside.
