Kind of busy, but a good list of our math vocabulary throughout the year.

i wish i could remember from whose blog i found the list of 6 progressively more challenging math games i plan to play with T over the next 6 months. this first one is almost too easy, but it reinforces the concept of one-to-one correspondence and provides a solid base for the next games. i just put numerals and dots on cards; T gets to place a teddy bear counter on each dot. he loves those counters. i'll give him the cards with higher numbers later in the week, and will change up the cards/counters each week until we move on to game 2.

The Best Maths Formula

we take turns flipping over the cards one by one; the other person has to watch and slap pre-determined numbers. you have to pay attention because you lose your card if another card is stacked atop it before you slap it. T thinks it is so fun, and i like it because it promotes rapid recognition of numbers. we're also doing simple math problems with this: since a perfect score is four, i ask him after each point how many cards are left to get. he's not exactly "doing math," but i hope he is becoming comfortable with how numbers fit together in different ways. when he has one card there are three left, when he has two cards there are two left, etc.
