Children enjoy a story and math-related activity. Those who enjoy this program are comfortable in the room with other children and without a parent or caregiver.
Math Awareness Week activities wrapped up last Friday with “Math Awareness Brunch”. The Math Department did a great job making students AWARE that Math is a very important subject by holding weeklong workshops and wrapping up with a fun and interactive “Math Brunch”.

Hello,
I would like to thank everyone and commend you for doing such a terrific job for the Math Awareness Week activities (especially the organizers: Helen, Dean, Abushieba, and Rey, and Assts.: Soledad, Daniela, and Lourdes (And intern-Natalie). I think we did an excellent job of making students AWARE that Math is a very important subject. We demonstrated the importance of students interacting with the Math Faculty and promoting student success in Math classes, as well.
During the week, there were four Math Workshops (some students attended each workshop), presented by Adrian, Bill, Dean, and Kelli and our Math Brunch on Friday - were ALL terrific. Wearing the matching T-shirts added a nice effect. It was even more special to have the Academic Dean – Dr. Theo Koupelis present to address the students (approximately 80 - 90 students) who attended the Friday morning Brunch event in the Southern Breezes Café.
An extra-special ‘Thank You’ to the Learning Community class presenters who spoke about the relationship between “Math and Music”. This was coordinated by the Instructors - Prof. Helen Barclay and Prof. Andrea Gilbert. It was nice to see other folks attend the Brunch; such as Dean Janice Stubbs, Dr. Sonia Nieves, and Prof. Edward Cornejo. There was representation from the ASC – Mr. Miguel Bonilla, and Student Enrollment Services - Mr. Maurice Parks, as well.
Also, thanks for the support from our Book publishers, Student Life (Carlos Parra/Jared White), and the South Campus Bookstore to help us make the event a success. Last, but not least, I would like to thank the photographers: Sandra Gans, Edwin Luna (Multimedia Specialist and his staff) for assisting with our Math Awareness Event promotion through Facebook and other social media.
It is nice to know how many people are concerned about promoting the awareness and appreciation of Math.
