PROFESSOR FRINK: Here is an ordinary square.
CHIEF WIGGUM: Whoa, whoa! Slow down, egghead!
PROFESSOR FRINK: But, suppose we extend the square beyond the two dimensions of our universe, along the hypothetical Z-axis, there. This forms a three-dimensional object known as a cube, or a Frinkahedron in honor of its discoverer.
ACFG has an area of 94cm², IGH has an area of 6cm², AB==BC & HB==BE. GF is 3 times the length of HG. Find the area of HBE.
For the Alabama Statewide Mathematics Competition held in February: ASMS won first place in District VII, Division One! Due to spring break and timing of the competition, we only had two participate instead of a usual team of FOUR. However, just these two students' scores allowed us to score 8th place in the State for Division One.
Individual awards are for the following:
Second Place in District VII, Division One: Joseph Sherrod
First Place in District VII, Division One: James Kim
For the Mobile Mathematics Olympiad held in February, we had several students participate.
Individual awards are for the following:
Participation: Rachel Jordan
Third Prize: Julia Taylor
Second Prize: Emma Saalwaechter
First Prize: James Kim and Marlan Zha
James Kim qualified for a trip to the little big apple in Manhattan, Kansas to participate in the Manhattan Mathematical Olympiad and won 2nd PLACE for high school!
In March we had a group of students participate in The Math Kangaroo Competition. We ha

I was working as principal at a school today and had a group for math. They were working on VENN and CARROLL diagrams so before school I put a couple of web site bookmarks onto the 6 iMacs in that room. At some point in the lesson I released them to look at the sites and solve the puzzles found on these pages. They enjoyed that quite a bit. Fun for me too.
Mental Math – Making Your Child an Excelling Intellect in a Competitive World.
Mental math is the ability to do mathematical calculations exclusively in one’s mind. With this ability, your child is able to do day-to-day computations in their head without ever needing a pencil, paper, calculator or any other form of help. Using various arithmetic techniques and practicing them in the mental space, your child is able to perform calculations within seconds that even adults would need much more time for.
However, developing these skills in a child requires serious efforts. At Tinker Thinkers, we train children to do such calculations using visual learning. We do this by using an ingenious invention called a Soroban.
