So, a couple of weeks ago (wearing the same sweater, I might add) I did a picture of me getting ready to tutor and having this white-board warm-up exercise of negatives and positives ready for my algebra scholar.
We are still working on negative and positive numbers and using them smoothly, but have gotten beyond adding and subtracting them. I am now checking that she can use the rules of negatives and positives when they interact with decimals, variables, division, multiplication, and especially distributing across an expression. I have the white board at the ready twice a week when I see her. This coffee shop's employees now sometimes lean over to see what I've served up for the day's session. Smile.
