Our Monday Mutt for Monday, April 9th!
Well, our Monday Mutt became a Tuesdays Child this week!
We'd like to introduce you to our latest friend, the rapscallion Husky "Dizzy"!
Dizzy is one of our most affectionate pups! Despite his size he would be quite happy to get in your lap if you let him and he LOVES to give hugs! As you can see from the picture, Dizzy is quite the social butterfly with MANY doggy pals. His very best friend is another big softy, Pluto the mastiff. Check out their video on our YouTube page!
Dizzy’s Mom says her favorite thing about him is that he “is really funny when he tries to talk. He can say hot dog really well! He loves rawhide rollups with peanut butter. We take walks together mainly because he makes me LOL. He is my first Husky (what was I thinking!). All in all he is the best dog and friend I have ever had.”
Bull mastiff puppy = huge. I've seen a lady walking a fully grown one around the mall parking lot. At first glance, I thought it was a moose.
Bella,my Uncle's Tibetan Mastiff....she weighs 135lbs....a very powerful girl!
AKC MEET THE BREEDS®: Tibetan Mastiff
An impressively large dog with noble bearing, the Tibetan Mastiff is an aloof and watchful guardian breed. They possess a solemn but kind expression, with an immense double coat it can be black, brown and blue/grey, with or without tan markings, and various shades of gold. Although seen in shows in the United States today, they may not enjoy participating in organized activities such as obedience or agility due to their highly independent natures.
A Look Back
The origins of the Tibetan Mastiff are somewhat murky, but earliest written accounts place a large dog around 1100 BC in China. The breed remained isolated in the Himalayan mountains, where it developed into the Tibetan Mastiff we know today. Primarily a family and property guardian, the breed was traditionally kept confined during the day, then let loose at night. They were left behind to guard the tents and families when the flocks were moved to higher pasture.
Right Breed for You?
Extremely independent and intelligent, the Tibetan Mastiff may have its own agenda, so for safety, they should be kept contained when exercised. Although active while out of doors, they are usually fairly quiet in the house. Prospective owners should note – the breed is highly protective of their family and property, so it may be difficult to bring people into your home. Finally, they shed their coat only once a year, but regular brushing is still required.

won best of breed at Westminster this year!
This great guy was super underweight, and still has a long way to go. It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures, but he just looks like a skeleton with skin hanging off. We were calling him bonehead because his head really just feels likes a skull.
Nelson, one of the animal control officers had him at home for a week, and he gained a decent amount of weight. He said he could barely walk when they picked him up. Now he's a happy boy who had fun running around the yard!

Our American Mastiff girls, Georgiana (right) and Isabelle (left) enjoying their new XL Big Barker beds! After letting the foam expand, I let the girls have them first thing this morning...they didn't even come to the door to say goodbye when I left the house - they were too comfortable! (not sure how I feel about that! - LOL ;) )
