The Neapolitan Mastiff is a huge, powerful guarder whose astounding appearance has intimidated intruders since the days of ancient Rome. Wary with strangers, the profusely wrinkled Mastino is sweet, placid, and steady among loved ones. Unless you've been to Jurassic Park, you've never seen anything like a Mastino. These majestic guardians of startling appearance are massive, powerful dogs.

"....... you need me on that ball. We use words like honor, code, loyalty, and fetch. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something.....our homes, families, and balls. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a those who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom and enjoyment that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you either pick up a weapon, stand a post, or buy a Mastiff. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

English Mastiff Cross 3 months old

A few shots from my end-of-life session with Mila, a sweet 13 year old English Mastiff. Sadly, the morning after our session, miss Mila had to be euthanized. We are all grateful that things came together to schedule the shoot when we did.

I have been knocked on my tail more than once holding the camera and a ball at this level with Titan.

The colossal Mastiff belongs to a canine clan as ancient as civilization itself. A massive, heavy-boned dog of courage and prodigious strength, the Mastiff is docile and dignified but also a formidable protector of those they hold dear.

British Army Mastiff armoured Ambulance Armed Forces Day Nottingham 2013

Titan is back in action, even though he is missing his upper canine tooth from a sports related injury. It seems it hasn't hampered his enthusiasm to play.

Titan looks for Santa's arrival, and Christmas Day. He knows he's probably getting his favorite present; a new bumpy ball.......or two.

The dog has a weight in the range of 110 to 155 lb. (50 to 70 kg) and a height at the shoulders of between of 24 to 30 in. (61 to 76 cm). The length of the body is about 15% greater than the height.

The skin is abundant and loose, particularly on the head where it hangs in heavy wrinkles. The preferred coat colours are black, grey and leaden.

A Neapolitan Mastiff may be expected to live for up to 10 years although their average lifespan is 7 years.

Then who the hell else are you talking... you talking to me? Well I'm the only one here.

Tibetan mastiff 7 months old

I know this is what you wanted to see; not the calm, gentle, loving family mastiff that he portrays. But a snarling, sabre-toothed orange beast, lurching for his new ball........and my camera.

Forgot I had this ridiculous shot of Titan. Who by the way, is quite pissed with this "thing" on his head.

Pup and I took one of our usual walks round the rough pastureland just across the road from my home. Suddenly, this Mastiff, or was it a Rhodesian Ridgeback?, appeared, obviously intent on joining us on our walk!

Because he looked just a bit aggressive, and knowing how my little dog would react to that, i.e. join the attack to protect herself, I roared "NO" at the Mastiff, he stopped in his tracks, and his owner strolled over and put him on a lead!!

All dogs are supposed to be on leads on this area of rough pastureland but it's amazing how often dog owners disregard it .. this is, after all, privately owned land with big notices stating that dogs must be kept on leads!

Anyway, all's well that ends well and I did stop the dog in his tracks .. I'm quite proud of my ability to roar! 😂
