Una delle band più pionieristiche e influenti dei nostri tempi, i Blondie – l’avanguardista Debbie Harry, frontwoman e cantante, il chitarrista/mastermind concettuale Chris Stein e l’energico batterista Clem Burke, insieme ai nuovi compagni di avventura Leigh Foxx (bassista della band dal 1997), Tommy Kessler (chitarrista) e Matt Katz-Bohen (tastierista) – hanno dato il via nel 2014 al 40° anniversario della propria carriera.
Recentemente la stessa Debbie ha sorpreso la folla del Coachella, comparendo sul palco durante il live-set degli Arcade Fire. La performance ha lasciato attoniti presenti e non (il festival è trasmesso in diretta streaming su Youtube) eleggendola come il momento più entusiasmante del festival. “Harry è stata cazzutissima, il suo glam, il suo carisma e la sua succulenta voce erano al top” – Rolling Stone Magazine. Con l’annuncio di un tour mondiale e la data che la vedrà in Italia per la prima volta dal vivo, non ci sono più dubbi che questo 2014 continuerà ad essere un turbinio di celebrazioni in pompa magna per l’anniversario dei 40 anni di carriera dei Blondie.
Parlando di storia i Blondie nascono nel 1974, quando un giovane hippie divisto tra studi fallimentari e sperimentazioni alla chitarra, Chris Stein, forma il nucleo pulsante dei Blondie, insieme alla ex cameriera e coniglietta di Playboy, Deborah Harry, nata a Miami nel 1945. Il gruppo si fa le ossa nei locali di New York diventati leggendari per il punk e la new wave, tra i quali spiccano il CBGB’s e il Max’s Kansas City. Quando nel 1977 pubblicano il loro primo album hanno già un seguito tale da permettere alla band di suonare come supporter di Iggy Pop e David Bowie.
