The Citroën Traction Avant was an automobile produced by the French manufacturer Citroën and was quite a revolution.
About 760,000 units were manufactured from 1934 to 1957.
The Traction Avant was the first front wheel drive (= ‘traction avant’ in French) car in large scale production. Cord had built front wheel drive vehicles a few years earlier in limited quantities at high prices.
In addition to the 4-door body, the car was also produced as a 2-door coupé with a rumble seat (strapontins), as a convertible (cabriolet, cabrio) and as an extended length model, the ‘Familiale’ with three rows of seats.

Vert

Dahlias are worldwide considered of the most popular and spectacular garden flowers.
They are natives of the sandy hillsides of Mexico, Central America, and northwestern South America.
Dahlias were cultivated by the Aztecs, taken to Europe by the Spaniards in the 18th century, and soon spread throughout the world in widely different climates.
There are at least 42 species of dahlia and over 20,000 cultivars.
There is a great variety of form in dahlias.

Ask ten inhabitants of Ghent (Dutch: Gent) what the most beautiful place in their city is and nine will answer the Graslei. Second on the other side of the River Leie: the Korenlei, here in the picture.
Today this medieval port with its unique row of historical buildings is the meeting place par excellence. Young and old, inhabitant and visitor, everyone meets on one of the many café patios or simply by the water. This is the thriving heart of the inner city.
Throughout all of these enjoyable medieval surroundings, the 16th-century guild-houses along the River Leie made for a most memorable backdrop. The colorful gabled roof buildings are the sights you see in post cards.
Ghent, with a population of a quarter of a million, is a city in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. Ghent is a city of history. During the Middle Ages, it was one of the richest and most powerful cities in Europe. It was once considered the second largest city north of the alps, after Paris. The impact of this rich past can be clearly seen when viewing the imposing architecture of churches and the houses of rich traders. The whole of the city center is restored in this fashion, and still breathes the atmosphere of a thriving late-medieval city state.

The Damme Canal (French: Canal de Damme. Dutch: Damse Vaart or Napoleonvaart) is a canal in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The canal links Bruges with the Western Scheldt (Dutch: Westerschelde) at Sluis, Netherlands.
It was in 1810 constructed on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte who wished to create a canal network in order to permit the efficient transport of troops without the risk of disruptive interventions from the British navy. Following the defeat of Napoleon, the original strategic imperative for the canal was removed. The plans in the Napoleonic era had called for a link to the Scheldt at Breskens. Half a century later the canal opened to traffic in 1856, and the link with the sea had moved to Sluis.

The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. The Red Admiral has a 45–55 mm wingspan. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates north in spring, and sometimes again in autumn.
This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red, and black wing pattern. More specifically, the dark wings possess orange bands that cross the fore wings and on the outer edge of the hind wings; white spots on the dorsal fore wings near the front margin; reddish bars on dorsal surface of all four wings.

Banjer, our 9 year old Kooikerhondje (kooiker hound))
The Kooikerhondje, nickname Kooiker, is a spaniel-type breed of dog of Dutch ancestry that was originally used as a working dog, particularly in duck hunting and tolling. These dogs with a height of 35 to 42 cm and a weight of 9 to 15 kg were already popular in the 16th to 18th century and appeared in the paintings of Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer and Jan Steen.

The Sun Fly, Tiger Hoverfly or Footballer (Helophilus pendulus) is an 11 to 13 mm long hoverfly that can be seen on flowers from April to October. This hoverfly is found in Europe and Asia, but also in North Africa and parts of North America. The insect is easily confused with a wasp and that is understandable because the hoverfly has camouflaged itself (form of mimicry) as a wasp.
The hoverfly, like the wasp and the bee, searches for nectar.

The Iris is a genus of 260–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers.
It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species.
As well as being the scientific name, iris is also very widely used as a common name for all Iris species.
It is a popular garden flower. The genus is widely distributed throughout the north temperate zone. Their habitats are varied, ranging from cold and montane regions to the grassy slopes, meadowlands and riverbanks of the northern hemisphere.
Irises are perennial plants, growing from creeping rhizomes (rhizomatous irises) or, in drier climates, from bulbs (bulbous irises). They have long, erect flowering stems. All irises have long steal and flowers with six petals, three downwards and three upright. The flowers can range in color from golden yellow, to white, blue, lavender and purple. Pink and apricot colored irises are grown in some species.

The Chinese windmill (Byasa alcinous) is a medium to large sized butterfly of the family Papilionidae.
This species can be found in temperate east Asia from Bhutan, and eastern China to the southern Ussuri region, Korea and Japan.
The butterfly is present in mixed broadleaved forests.
The Chinese windmill has a wingspan reaching about 9–10 cm.
The basic colour of the wings is black or dark brown.
The hindwings have long tails and a chain of red spots at the edges. The thorax and the abdomen are mainly black on the upperside and the underside, with several black spots, while the other areas are red. Adults are on wing from May to August in two generations.

The Map Butterfly (Araschnia levana) owes its English name to the map-like figures on the undersides of the wings.
This delightful little 30-38 mm butterfly is common in the Palaearctic ecozone (Europe and Asia) and the Australasia & Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The distribution extend from western Europe to whole Asia and from Japan to Indoneisa. It flies across open places in woodland and along woodland margins until 1200 m sea level.
The strongly marked seasonal differences between the first and the latter broods are quite remarkable (seasonal dimorphism). The uppersides of the wings of the first brood (May/June) are brownish orange with black markings, while the uppersides of the second brood (July/September) are dark brown or black with white markings, looking like a miniature version of the White Admiral. There are also intermediate forms.
In the pictures here is the Map in summer brood / second generation / summer generation.

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is an atypical member of the cat family that is unique in its speed, while lacking climbing abilities. Therefore it is placed in its own genus, Acinonyx.
It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 112 and 120 km/h in short bursts covering distances up to 460 m, and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 110 km/h in three seconds, faster than most supercars.
The adult cheetah weighs from 40 to 65 kg. Its total body length is from 115 to 150 cm, while the tail can measure up to 85 cm in length. Males tend to be slightly larger than females and have slightly bigger heads. The cheetah's chest is deep and its waist is narrow. The coarse, short fur of the cheetah is tan with round black spots measuring from 2 to 3 cm across, affording it some camouflage while hunting. There are no spots on its white underside, but the tail has spots, which merge to form four to six dark rings at the end. The cheetah has a small head with high-set eyes.
There are several geographically isolated populations of cheetah, all of which are found in Africa or Southwestern Asia. The cheetah likes to live in an open biotope, such as semi-desert, prairie, and thick brush, though it can be found in a variety of habitats.

Bumblebee on a dahlia looking for nectat.
A bumblebee (or bumble-bee, or humble-bee) is any of over 250 species in the genus Bombus, one of the bee families.
They occur naturally in Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Americas.
Most bumblebees are social insects that form colonies with a single queen. The colonies are smaller than those of honey bees. growing to as few as 50 individuals in a nest.
Bumblebees vary in appearance, but are generally plump and densely furry. They are larger, broader and stouter-bodied than honeybees, and their abdomen tip is more rounded.
Many species have broad bands of colour, the patterns helping to distinguish different species.

The Old World Swallowtail or Common Yellow Swallowtail (Papilio machaon) is a butterfly of the family Papilionidae (the Swallowtails). The imago typically has yellow wings with black vein markings, and a wingspan of 60 - 90 mm. The hind wings of both sexes have a pair of protruding tails which give the butterfly its common name from the resemblance to the birds of the same name. Just below each tail is a red eye spot and six blue spots. The underside is somewhat paler in colour. This species of butterfly, Papilio machaon, is found primarily in Europe and Asia, but also in parts of North America and northern Africa.

The fuchsia flower, too ladies eardrop, is a beautiful exotic flower with striking two-tone colors, one of the most widely cultivated flowerplants in the world. There are currently almost 110 recognized species of Fuchsia shrubs with lovely hanging lanternlike flowers in magentas, pinks, purples, and whites.
Many varieties are cultivated for their handsome drooping flowers.
The majority of fuchsia species are native to Central and South America. A small additional number are found on Hispaniola (two species), in New Zealand (three species) and on Tahiti (one species). The common mormon (Papilio polytes) is a species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed in south and east Asia.
The common mormon is a medium tot large black butterfly with mostly tails and white markings on the centre of the rear wings.
The males and females usually look alike, but this butterfly is also known for the mimicry displayed by the numerous forms of its females which mimic inedible Red-bodied Swallowtails, such as the Common Rose and the Crimson Rose.
The wingspan is 85–105 mm.

The Zuiderhaven (South harbor) is an old harbor in the historical town of Harlingen in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands.
The harbor was dug around 1600 and from that time until 1994, this port was filled with shipyards. Many related companies, such as sail makers, timber traders, mast and block makers, and anchor smiths, determined the image of this port for centuries.
The Zuiderhaven is now a mooring place for historic ships and fishing vessels and part of a protected cityscape with a large number of monumental buildings.

The Pale Cracker (Hamadryas amphichloe) is a species of cracker butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (20 members).
They acquired their common name “cracker” due to the unusual way that males produce a "cracking" sound as part of their territorial displays as they fly to interact with other insects.
The upperside of the Pale Cracker is light brown, gray, and white; forewing with a red bar in the cell; males with outer part of wing whitish. Submarginal eyespots of tan hindwing have orange scales outside a black crescent.
The wingspan is approximately 7,5 – 8,6 cm.
The Pale Cracker is distributed from Panama to Peru in South America, Costa Rica in Central America and the Caribbean islands. This species is found in rainforest and deciduous forest habitats at altitudes between sea level and 1200 metres.

The black-veined white (Aporia crataegi) is a medium-large butterfly of the family Pieridae, 'the whites and yellows'. The butterfly is found in orchards and bushes throughout most of Europe, North Africa, North America, Middle East and temperate Asia, Korea and Japan. It is normally found an altitudes of 500 to 2,000 metres.
In Western Europe and in Scandinavia, the black-veined white is mostly a vagrant. It is not present in the British Isles.
The black-veined white has a wingspan of 51 to 70 mm. The upper side of both fore and hind wings is a translucent white boldly veined with black. The underside is similar in the male but the female has brown veining. This butterfly can be told from other members of the white butterfly genus Pieris by its distinctive veined wings.
