Macy's Walnut Room Christmas Tree
111 N. State
Chicago, IL
It may be called Macy’s – but this will ALWAYS be the Marshall Fields Walnut Room Christmas Tree. We took my son Josh down to see the Festival Of Lights on North Michigan Ave, Chicago… and stopped by State St. to see the famous tree.
I took this picture 3x2, but then cropped down the lowest third of the picture, because the tree was taking away from my real subjects: my wife Jeanine and our son! Because I shot RAW from a 10mpix D200, I had plenty of pixels left over! DXO V4.1 Fiji film emulation modes gave me incredibly accurate and vibrant colors, and the DXO Lens module for my Nikon constant 50mm F1.2 did an outstanding job correcting color fringing on the background Christmas tree lights.
The light fixtures at the Seven on State food court at Marshall Field's are all decorated with kitchen stuff!

Jason, Janice and I make a yearly trip to Chicago to see Tuba Xmas (wikipedia). A lot of years we're a bit late and don't get seats, but can listen in. This year we were crazy early and were able to sit and listen and watch. To be honest the way the room is setup there isn't that much to see, but it's pretty cool to listen to. Afterwards we walk around the German Village in Daley Plaza and around on State Street and Michigan Avenue. I didn't take the SLR as the weather was a bit iffy, but I got some decent shots with the PNS.

The Great Tree in the Walnut Room in the store formerly known as Marshall Fields. I will admit that the tree this year is rather pretty in spite of its current owners.
