...And now for something completely different....

I haven't uploaded any photos from my last trip as I have such a backlog from Antarctica. But here's something different from my usual offerings. This is something I have wanted to see since childhood: a Marlin leaping clear of the water. This is a Striped Marlin, which are exceedingly swift predatory fish that feed on smaller shoaling fish like sardines. They are found throughout tropical and subtropical waters but are probably most frequent in the eastern Pacific where I took this. They are large too, averaging 2.9m from tail to sword-tip, but can exceed 4m. Most of my previous sightings have been of their tail fins at the surface but on this trip I saw three or four different individuals leaping. Typically they were distant but I had some luck with this relatively close one.

This hot mineral water fountain is located in Marlin, Texas. Around 1900, people flocked to Marlin for healing in the hot mineral waters that sprang up there. Water from this fountain is still available to anyone who wants it. There is also a tub nearby for soaking your feet. Many people still claim healings from drinking or soaking in this water.

(with glasses)

After some good years in the #4, the team started to slip in 1997 with no wins and 25th in points and Marlin and the team split after the season.

The Brilliant Blue Marlin of Tooting

Marlin is a British sports car manufacturer founded in 1979 in Plymouth as Marlin Engineering and now located in Crediton, Devon. The company was founded by Paul Moorhouse, who, after building a series of one off cars for his own use decided to put one into production as a kit car. 2009 Marlin SP5609 is seen at Prescott during the Vintage and Pre-war Drive Thru Day on 2nd August 2020.

One of my favorite cars. This one in the Lemay Museum in Tacoma Washinton.
