I actually thought it was gravity, but whatever.

Unedited, from my new phone.

Beautiful weather the past couple of days: lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s.

The countdown is on. Feb. 2, we saw that surveyors had planted tiny orange flags in the empty lot behind us. This usually means construction will begin on a new house within a few weeks (once the city permits come through).

So my sunset view will be mostly blocked sometime within the next few months -- by mid-summer, certainly.

I'm kind of hoping it's a two-story house, which will block more of the late afternoon sun from our house's west side, thus saving us a little on our electric bills in the summer.

UPDATE, 2017.10.08: This is one of only five photos in my photostream with more than 10,000 views AND more than 100 faves AND more than 10 comments.

The sunset has moved about as far south as it's going to (give it another two weeks). This was at 17:52 CST.

The only difference between this image and the other two sunset images I made on the same evening are a few minutes. This one was seven minutes after the other two.

Today is my First Anniversary on Flickr! Happy Flickrversary to me! Thanks to !!WaynePhotoGuy for coining the term.....cool!

On March 29, 2006 I joined Flickr and uploaded six photos I had on a CD that were taken with a disposable camera. I didn't even own a real camera so I used my camera phone for the first four months. I now have 252 photos posted and almost 23,500 views with 10 photos that made it onto Explore, some of which were taken with my camera phone! Imagine that? Flickr is a part of my life for which I'm grateful.

As I reflect on my involvement with and integration into the Flickr community I am very happy to say that I have made many wonderful, new friends this past year. Some of whom I've emailed quite extensively, others whom I've spoken with either on the phone or via Skype, and three lovely gentlemen whom I've met in person (Dan, Michael, and Craig). Each Flickr-Meet was a lovely visual experience. Thank you.

Throughout this past year, which was a difficult year of emotional transition for me, I've been blessed to be on the receiving end of not only creative, but especially, emotional support. I'm happy to say there are too many of you to mention. I hope you each know who you are?

Although there are too many friends to mention (please don't feel offended if I miss your name) I do want to recognize a few of you.

Michael (MS4JAH) was my first contact .... on March 30th. I saw his wonderful hot air balloon photos and made several comments. He added me as a friend and sent me an email. Thus began my initiation into the International Flickr community. (Thank you, Michael. You were the perfect host during our outings in California. I am especially grateful for you taking me on a hot air balloon flight. I would not have done it with any one else. Knowing you were an experienced Navy jet pilot made me feel safe. The flight was an experience I will always remember! Thanks for the loan of your camera, too. I also enjoyed the climb *yikes* up the cliffs at Black's Beach, the sighting of the comet at Ocean Pier and the visit to the Border Fence at the Mexican border. Thank you, as well, for the magnificent sunset photo which I still use as my desktop photo.) flickr.com/photos/hotair2112/176993093/ and www.flickr.com/photos/hotair2112/346444976/in/photostream/ and flickr.com/photos/hotair2112/333032482/

I thank Craig (pfflyers1) in California for guidance in helping to select several photos that made it onto Explore and playing around with titles. Thanks, Dan (Symbiosis) from Chicago, for lunch at Ft. Lauderdale Beach on my first Flickr-Meet. www.flickr.com/photos/yolanda_s19/284619695/

Thank you, Tom (tom_sketching), for adding your poetry to a couple of my photos.

To each one of you who has taken the time to write a TESTIMONIAL for me (Tony, Boris, Pete, Don) I am grateful for your support and encouragement.

I send a heartfelt THANKS to the many of you who consistently comment on my photos, even though I have been too busy with school work to comment on yours: (in no particular order) Michael (X5), Jonathan, Craig, Matteo, Desmond, Dan, Mitch, Joe (X3), Gus, Tony, Nino, Don, Jesse, Eirc, Stefano, Charles, David (X2), Bryan, Scott, Aldo, Marcin, Shamik, Suresh, Roger, Pete, Patrick, Peter, Ralph, Boris, Vitor, Mike, Scott, Arthur, Mark, Matt, Juan, Alfonso, James, Francisco, Danilo, Kenny, Dom, Marcel, Andrea, Kayaan, Denny, Gary, Edward, Mark, Matias, Pedro (X2), Samuel, Steve, Leigh, Victor, John (X4), Richard, Chris, Matthew, Matt, Wayne, Doug, Jon, Igor, Jerome, Jeff (X2), Harald, Stewart, Tom (2), Alexei, Todd, Nick, TonyH, Anthony, Antani, Khashayar, Sergio, etc.

And to all the lovely ladies of Flickr from all over the world (Gabi in Israel, Yun in Japan, Sheila in Germany, Mirna, Vitorica, my Southern, Western and Northern sisters, Lisa, June, Kelly, Donna, Rose, Barbara, Wanda, Carmen, Bucky, Jolanda, Yolanda, Di, Karoli, Amy, Janet, Sylvia, Karen, Marline, Rachel, Maha, Joy, Georgi, etc.), who have sent me emails of encouragement over the past year and continue to comment on my photos, I thank you all! Godspeed!

It has been a thrill "meeting" so many wonderful new friends from all over OUR small planet. I can't even begin to list all the countries but I know that I have "met" folks from every continent living in most regions of the world.

Blessings to you all!

The photos on Flickr continue to inspire and fill me with awe, and in some cases, bring up social conscience, especially those taken by Tom (Stoneth) .

Un beso y un abrazo para todos!!! Bejos! Baci!

Yolanda

PS: This photo was taken on the steepest city-hill I've ever seen. It was scary! This glass building is on a street in San Diego near the airport. I took this shot from within my rental car on my last day there, January 16, 2007 after a 2.5 week California vacation.

PS2: I promise to comment on your photos more regularly when the semester ends. Hasta luego! (^_^)

Love it down here, it has an almost jurassic feel about it. Really close to home too.

2012, Dec. 19   -   Waco, Texas

At the Cameron Park Zoo (it was in the high 70s most of the day), I was struck by the size of these nuts and bolts. This isn't a macro shot. Those bolts are 1-1/8 inches in diameter. The cable behind them was as thick as my wrist.

Happy 50,000th to me!

This is my 50,000th upload to Flickr since joining the site in September 2005 -- almost exactly 12.5 years ago today. In that time, you wonderful people have viewed my images 6.78 million times (average of about 135 views per image). If you add in the views from my photostream, albums, etc., the total view statistic is now at 7.8 million views. I can't express how much I appreciate it.

Normally, I keep my family photos away from public view -- for only friends and family -- but I'm making an exception here for my 50,000th upload. This hearkens back to the "clone" shots I so enjoyed back when I first learned how to do them -- even before Flickr (I think this is my first one, from 2003).

I'm no longer actually sure which photo was the FIRST I uploaded to Flickr, because at some point I rearranged some of them by editing the upload date. But currently THIS photo is my earliest public image, which I recorded in July 2005 and uploaded to Flickr on Sept. 18, 2005, about a month after meeting the woman who would become my wife.
