I stopped Mark because I was intrigued by his huge, professional looking headphones that he had draped around his neck. He agreed to a portrait immediately and seemed quite excited about it. The combination of his scarf, hat and phones looked cool to me. It's quite common see people listening to music as they go about their day as Newtown’s music scene is well known and highly regarded, it does tend to draw music lovers in. I positioned him facing the light and quickly took a few shots while his friend Evan watched on.
Mark is an Audio Engineer which explains the top notch headphones he was wearing. He works for Sydney’s TV stations Channel 7 and ABC 3 kids. Music is also big part of his life as he and Evan are thinking about starting an Electronica dance band. Evan has already had some success with music releasing an EP called Clulow which got some airplay on a local radio station.
I enjoyed meeting them both and I wish them all the best with their music.

The yellow umbrella stood out so starkly and interestingly amidst the rest of the surroundings, that I had to paint this scene. The best view was standing, so I drew it standing rather uncomfortably but painted it sitting. The next challenge was where to place the figures, because a market is not a market without people. Once drawn I waited till the very end of the painting session to render the value and color on the shoppers, then realizing that leaving most of them white and unpainted would be best. What do you think?
Sorry about my absence it has been busy here and there has not been much time for photographing anything but my beloved ones. Some of whom you see below. Such a lovely moment yesterday. And this snail painstakingly making its way up the glass door. What would it be doing up there away from any kind of nutrition I wonder? well what goes up usually comes down again, the whole cycle of life and fibonnacci curl and the roundness of all things keep humming through my rain soaked head

Mark Farner (formerly of Grand Funk Railroad) IS the engine that took the original Grand Funk Railroad, one of rock music’s most successful groups, to the top of the charts. As their lead vocalist, lead guitarist and principle songwriter the group made a beeline to rock stardom following their show-stealing performance before 180,000 people at the Atlanta International Pop Festival in 1969. Due in no small part to Mark's strong and steady vocals, mastery of guitar and stage charisma, Grand Funk was one of those very few bands who really was better live than in the studio, so it was no surprise when their Grand Funk Live Album reached the Top Five. However, all of this paled in comparison to the group's sold out performance at New York's 55,000-seat Shea Stadium in 1971. Not since The Beatles had any group sold out Shea and GFR still holds the record. In 1995, Mark accepted an invitation to join Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band where his show-stealing, footstompin' performances made it clear that audiences were still hungry for Mark and Grand Funk's music. Even after 40 years on the road, some sort of magical transformation takes place when Mark Farner steps on stage. Out of a chrysalis emerges this charismatic alter-ego sprinkled with stardust. When Mark's on stage he's the consummate, professional rocker who's lost none of his chops. His voice is still clear, strong and on key, his guitar playing slick and lightening quick and his trademark prancing still that of a spring chicken. 30 million records sold...Mark's train keeps a rollin'. - (FYI: Mark is 71 years young)

To celebrate its 550th anniversary Magdalen College, Oxford has commissioned the Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger to create his first-ever dedicated permanent artwork.
Two years in development, the sculpture Y was unveiled on St Mary Magdalen Day 2008. William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester founded Magdalen College in 1458. It is one of the best-known colleges in the University of Oxford and is known internationally for its high academic standing.
The College has many fine buildings. The Cloisters, Chapel, Founder’s Tower and Hall were built in the Gothic style in the later part of the 15th century. The Great Tower, a pictorial symbol of Oxford, is famous for the May Day event when the College choir sings an ancient hymn at dawn. The Georgian New Buildings, which blend into the College Gardens and grounds, were completed in 1733. The buildings sit amid a hundred acres of lawns, woodlands and riverside walks, which are publicly accessible, and there is a deer herd that has been in existence for over 300 years.
Addison’s Walk, named after the great essayist of the 18th century and father of English journalism, is about a mile in length and goes by the River Cherwell around a great water meadow. Beyond the end of Addison’s Walk is a tranquil field known as Bat Willow Meadow, which is where the new commission is sited. Maps of the grounds of Magdalen College are available from the Porters’ Lodge or they can be downloaded from the Magdalen website.
Over the past twenty years Mark Wallinger has established an international reputation with major solo exhibitions in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Val-de-Marne, Frankfurt, Aarau, Basel, Milan, New York and Chicago.
His work encompasses a wide range of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation, and it takes art history, mythology, religion, politics, national identity and popular culture as its subject matter. Wallinger studied at Chelsea School of Art in 2001, and in Goldsmiths' College. He exhibited in Young British Artists II at the Saatchi Collection in 1993 and at the Royal Academy of Art's Sensation exhibition in 1997.
His Time and relative dimensions in space derived from a residency and was shown at Oxford University Museum of Natural History in 2001 and in the same year he represented Britain in the 49th Venice Biennale. The artist is best known for Ecce Homo, a life-size sculpture of Jesus Christ which inaugurated the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in 1999, and State Britain, his 2007 re-creation at Tate Britain of Brian Haw's protest display outside parliament. He was a Turner Prize nominee in 1995 and won the award in 2007, and he is one of five internationally acclaimed artists who have been commissioned to produce proposals for the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project, which will be one of the biggest artworks in the United Kingdom.

Major decisions by Travis Berridge and Luke Wilson powered the Gold team to a 14-6 victory over the Green squad in Cal Poly wrestling's annual intrasquad meet on a warm and sunny Friday afternoon in the University Union plaza.
Berridge scored a 15-4 major decision over Ryan Anderson at 174 pounds, notching five takedowns, a two-point near fall and a reversal along with riding time.
Wilson wrestling in his first match as a Mustang after battling injuries for three years, earned a 13-5 major decision against Joe Granger at 165 pounds. Wilson, a Righetti High School graduate, recorded four takedowns, a reversal and an escape plus riding time for the win.
Wilson's final takedown with seven seconds left sealed the victory.
Also winning for the Gold team were Ty Schilling at 133 pounds and Glenn Farina at 141.
Trailing 2-0 after two periods, Schilling earned an escape and two takedowns for a 5-3 win over Yoshito Funakoshi while Farina scored two first-period takedowns on his way to an 8-5 triumph over Curtis Booth.
Victories for the Green squad were posted by Joshy Cortez at 149 pounds and Thomas Lane at 184.
Cortez notched an escape to start the second period and rode out Jason DeLaCruz in the final period for riding time and a 2-0 victory while Lane tallied an escape and penalty point in the first period, a takedown in the second period and a pair of escapes in the final period for a 6-5 win over Sohrab Movahedi.
"We thought the guys competed hard today," first-year Mustang head coach Jon Sioredas said of his coaching staff. "It was a great outdoor setup with great weather."
