We have a date next weekend with Sarah and family to play some MarioKart. We consider ourselves pretty good at MarioKart, but it's been a loooooooong time since we'd played. So in preparation for the big event we dusted off our Wii wheels (and dusted all the battery explosion residue off the insides -- did we mention we haven't played in a while?) and put in a bunch of practice laps. We don't want to be humiliated by a first-grader, after all. More important than honing our skills, though, was figuring out how to play without the torrents of filthy language we normally deploy. The muscle memory of winning at Wario's Gold Mine might still be in place, but we've got to re-train those muscles to include exclamations of "Oh CRAB!" or "MondayFRIDAY!" when we drive off the track. You know what doesn't help with that? Booze. MelonFARMER!
The Tuesday gaming day this week was Mario Kart on the Wii! Four players at a time could race for the checkered flag in this action packed game. Some were new to the game and others were first timers, but all had fun!
Our friends asked Santa to bring a Wii for their kids (ages 7 and 4) this past Christmas. We recently dropped in to play Super Mario with the 7 year old and discovered he is mad for Wii! It warmed the cockles of our mostly-casual-but-occassionally-obsessive-gamer hearts! Upon leaving, though, we realized that they're a family of four with a Wii but without MarioKart. WTF? How is that possible?! We quickly remedied that by ordering it for them and sending it c/o of the 7-year-old. Turns out it was a hit. We received a thank you note from him today, complete with the sign-off "sincerely" (he was not instructed by his mother to write that!), and an adorable portrait of him and his sister playing MarioKart "for the hole morning almost". Just for that, we both promise to go easy on the kid the first time we play MarioKart against him. We'll aim those banana peels and red shells elsewhere. But only that once!
NOTE: We're taking pictures of the LCD monitor from a digital camera, which is why the picture angle is a little weird and it may seem bright in some portions of the video. The actual video output on the HDBOXPRO looks great, without any viewing angle/brightness problems.
