From a photo shoot inside the United States' Library of Congress in May 2022. This is one of the prettiest libraries in the world, in terms of aesthetics and it also has one of the most impressive collections anywhere on the planet. It's also the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States, having been created in 1800 (though proposed much earlier, by James Madison, in 1783).

The main building -- the Thomas Jefferson Building -- was built between 1890-1897. As the Brits burned down the original library during the War of 1812 (in 1814), Jefferson sold some of his personal collection (about 6,500 books) to restart the library in 1815. There was a fire in 1851 which, sadly, burned about 2/3 of the library's 35,000 book collection -- including 2/3 of the original purchase from Jefferson.

Also, the LOC has the best collection of (George & Ira) Gershwin memorabilia. Love those jazz standards from the Popular American Songbook? It's definitely worth a look in the room to see the original piano, desk, and typewriter on which many of their famous works were composed.

The Main Reading Room is also visually stunning, and you can see it from a gallery above it to get a great perspective.
