From the Stony Bay to the Lookout- we finished the last half of the walk by coming in from the other end at Stony Bay a few days later(& in the process missing a very steep climb to the lookout) From start to finish the walk is 7kms but to drive from the start to end it's 56kms on some very winding narrow gravel roads.

In New Zealand you can get beer brewed with manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) tips added as flavoring. Too much like turpentine for my taste but the Kiwis like it and think it is medicinal. Rotorua, New Zealand.

Manuka honey is delicious and has healing properties

For awhile I had a New Zealand Tea Tree (Leptospermum scoparium) growing in a large pot in my back yard. Several varieties of this species can be found in the nursery trade. This dark red variety is my favorite, and it is quite popular in California. Later on, when I visited New Zealand, I was able to actually walk through a forest of wild tea trees, which the New Zealanders call "manuka" trees. But all of them, even the ones in cultivation, had white or pale pink flowers.

One of a series of images taken from the interisland ferry Aratere in the Tory Channel, South Island, New Zealand. White flowering Manuka can be seen on the hillside.

A kind of false start, as the webcam comes unstuck from the side of the window box it's sitting in, about six hours after being installed. I installed the camera sideways, in an effort to get more vertical resolution in the image.

We visited the Canberra Contemporary Art Space in Manuka this morning, to see a photographic exhibition (Monuments by Madeline Bishop).
