The Mantaray that Dean Jeffries built in 1963 was an early trendsetting asymmetrical design, inspired by the offset seating position of the late '30's Maserati Indy car that he used for its chassis. His body fabrication was masterful, forming the metal sheets over thin steel rod similar to the 'superleggera' technique used by the Italian coach builder Touring. An odd but fascinating piece of car culture, which can be seen at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles. I was very happy to find this superb Hot Wheels collector model that was produced several years ago.
