Manipulated.
Some times is nice play little while whit photoshop and
spoil photo whit frame, heh hee :)
I made it again...
Manipulated photographs of a window and the crumbling remains of an apartment building in Mexico City's Condesa neighbourhood.
I felt like doing a bit of playing around with image manipulation, so I grabbed a quick crop from a recent self-portrait and got to work. I didn't make careful note of the steps I took, but it basically amounted to duplicating the image layer, desaturating it, running a grain reduction filter followed by an edge detect filter (Roberts algorithm) on the desaturated layer and combining it in Grain Merge mode with the original, then tweaking the value curve to deepen the dark tones. I quite like the effect.
Manipulated photographs of a window in an abandoned building and an oddly painted truck in Mexico City's Condesa neighbourhood.
This is what happens when you experiment with GIMP at 1:00 in the morning. :D
So... something... kind of interesting happens when you combine the cubist effect with layers in subtract mode...
Definitely needs to be viewed large. When viewed large, you can actually see it. :)
The original photo is here.
Anyway, hope you enjoy, and as always, please let me know what you think. :)
Brief Description:
This project is a mechanical program. The panel in the center could be thought of much like an adjustable music box cylinder. Its array of pegs manipulate a flexible fabric skin, which is read by mechanical fingers to transmit high and low amplitudes to a series of brushes. These brushes, which are soaked in ink, raise and lower according the information they receive. When the wall is moved, a drawing is created.

Extended Description:
This project explores the potential for a mechanical program to extract quantitative, codified information from a given input to produce a meaningful qualitative output. It begins with a quarter circle. This potent combination of arc and right angle was chosen for its significance in the literal construction of architectural geometries and symbolic implications in reconciling the earthly man-made with the heavenly infinite. Within the gallery, the quarter circle appears as an image, a surface, a volume, and a path through time, together serving the needs of the mechanical narrative. The machine manifests a personal interpretation of the creative process. Inspiration goes in, mechanical components shift and churn, and something meaningful yet partially unpredictable comes out the other side. At its heart, this project is a mechanical portrayal of my architectural design process.

"The basis for determining the amount of water that can be diverted for power generation is contained in a treaty between the Governments of Canada and the United States concerning the "Diversion of the Niagara River," dated 1950, and generally referred to as the "1950 Niagara Treaty."
The treaty requires that during the daylight hours of the tourist season (0800 to 2200 hours local time, April 1st to September 15th and 0800 to 2000 hours local time September 16th to October 31st), the flow over Niagara Falls must not be less than 2832 cubic metres per second (cubic m/s). At all other times, the flow must not be less than 1416 cu m/s.
The treaty also specifies that all water in excess of that required for domestic and sanitary purposes, navigation and the falls flow may be diverted for power generation.
If the river was allowed to return to natural levels, it would rise probably another 5 metres." Niagara Park.

Combine a table, table cloth, air conditioning unit, and transparent plastic "curtains" usually meant to contain heat within a space (as opposed to cold) and you've got an improvised climate control system. Dissasemble and place AC unit on table in corner on mild days. The ability to create/impose b ...
