...and I want it painted black.

No colors anymore I want them to turn black...

All black? Yeah, I think the Rolling Stones were thinking just that with the song "Paint it Black". Thus, my entry for the monthly scavenger hunt.

Taken specifically for the Monthly Scavenger Hunt.

Photo this work is based off of is a church down the street. Textures used were found in Textures for Layers . Texture credits go to Pareeerica and Cinzia Rizzo.

My goal was to make the photos look like vintage or Victorian-era photos. And one painting.

Digital Manipulation; A posterized picture of the sunset over a marsh with the mountains in the background.

I love the word play and the visual pun between Gustav Mahler and Gustav Mauler--although I always have to explain the title because the conductor is wearing Bermuda shorts and Mauler is not a composer.

The Extreme Manipulations series relies mostly on geometric manipulations, although I occasionally combined other techniques. To a great extent this is a collection of what I found most interesting from other, not so successful series which accounts for the lack of coherence or theme among the images..

The Adept is one that is most

concerned with outward manifestation of magical energy, many are often "changelings". Adepts tend to work consciously with the manipulation of magic through the use of ritual and ceremonial evocation. Adepts pull energy from the outer world through their instruments, and relay it back to the outer world in their manifestations. They are concerned with the form and style of magical expression, and they glean their powers through focused study and active ritual meditation. Adepts actively seek to bring the unmanifest into physical expression, and are interested in the mechanical process by which the unmanifest may be evoked. They are most closely associated and aligned with the divine energies of Fire/Color/Power.

Composed in Photoshop with layers, stock, lighting filters, topaz filter, Redfield Fractalius filters, blending modes, and textures. Color alterations have been made through Photoshop color filters and curves.

I don't like flashy awards, since they're mostly given because of an obligation to stupid group rules. If you got something to say, say it in your own words and not by copying and pasting. I don't follow such rules, so if you have the sweaper running, don't even bother to invite me please. As of now the flashy awards will be removed, no offence!

I used surface manipulation by putting texture onto the page using modeling paste and then I scratched into the canvas using the end of my paintbrush and sandpaper. I used the surface manipulation to illustrate the emotion of frustration. I enjoyed the project because it's something I've never done before and out of my comfort zone.

One of the surprises life has thrown at me is the opportunity to go back to school for two of my life long passions: Art and Writing. I have been wanting to branch out into digital painting and artwork for a long time now and am now spreading my wings. Another dream of mine has been to combine traditional art, digital art, photography, and writing. I can't wait to see that dream come true.

All of this to say I will probably be gradually starting to upload more digital art as well as traditional art. I got myself a deviantART account (JuliaGraceArts.deviantart.com) and will be uploading most of my artwork there in the near future. I will continue to upload photographs and Photo-manipulation here to flickr though.

For this image I was going for a painted look. I used Photoshop to edit and paint over the photograph to achieve the look I wanted.

The flower brushes in the background are courtesy of Stina Lökken www.stilok.se. Please check her out! She's a fellow photographer and has wonderful brushes for Photoshop available for free.
