Rhizophora mangle L., RHIZOPHORACEAE. Este árbol, que gusta de los suelos costeros salinos, puede alcanzar unos 10 metros de altura. Pertenece al exclusivo club de los manglares, de los cuales en Venezuela sólo existen cuatro especies. Se caracteriza por sus raíces adventicias, que parecieran hacer andar al árbol, y por algo más curioso: sus semillas germinan sobre sí mismo antes de desprenderse.
