Roman snail having a chew!

1970's Christmas Manger decoration. Made in Hong Kong. I have never seen this color variation. The more common one is dark brown with glitter glued on the roof. The figure of Mary was glued in crooked.

Tghe camel came from a Longmont farm. They have 20 and sell milk from them. The milk is know to be the closest approximation to a human mother's milk.

After five decades some of the bark and moss had fallen off the old manger.

I’m not sure how old it is but will guess early 70s or late 60s. The original manger we had was cardboard and that literally fell apart into pieces one year.

I went around to 2 different hobby shops and none of them had any bark but was able to buy a bag of moss. One place told me to try a pet shop. They sell driftwood for use in fish tanks. I told the clerk maybe I’ll just ride out to the forest preserve and find some large fallen tree branches. I did go to one pet shop but a 10” piece of driftwood was like $24.99 and it was literally falling apart in my hands.

When I got home I found some 5-6” diameter tree branches stacked up by my brother behind the AC Unit that had come off our silver maple tree in the back yard when it was cut down in 2016.

The two pieces forming the peak of the roof were added to replace the original piece that broke off or disintegrated. One of the pieces that broke off I cut down a little to add to the vertical wood column on the right side. The new piece of bark on the right side of the roof shields about ¾ of the vertical column, but at least it was utilized. The wider pieces of bark also block the view of the light bulb up at the top of the roof.

I shaved the back of the pieces of tree bark, flat with a 1” wide wood chisel. After Christmas I’ll do something to hide the nail heads, maybe paint them a flat brown and maybe glue a little moss over them.

A 1940s angel (ornament) was added to the peak as well, as I’ve seen angels overhead on other manger pictures I’ve seen online.

This fig blanc manger is an elegant and VERY easy dessert to make. Best of all... it tastes AMAZING. Creamy, light, cool and delicious.

Fleet number 1055 looks smart in its green and white livery as it passes South Charlotte Street operating an outbound 124 to North Berwick. The vehicle was new to Lothian in 2018. Behind the bus is what is now called Charlotte House, the oldest part on the left dating from 1903. Originally an L shaped building with another elevation on South Charlotte Street, it was built for the Edinburgh bakers and caterers, MacVitties, Guest. Subsequently, they were able to acquire the corner site (No. 135) as well and replaced the house with the extension c. 1924. In 1962, the retail unit on the corner was acquired by British European Airways (later British Airways) who occupied it for some time before moving to smaller premises in Frederick Street. Now it is a very popular branch of Pret a Manger.

Here's a thought for the season:

"What really matters in life is people, not objects;

tolerance, not judgment;

LOVE, which is the very heart of a family."

The First Noel, the Angels did say

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!

They looked up and saw a star

Shining in the East beyond them far

And to the earth it gave great light

And so it continued both day and night.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!

And by the light of that same star

Three Wise men came from country far

To seek for a King was their intent

And to follow the star wherever it went.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest

O'er Bethlehem it took its rest

And there it did both Pause and stay

Right o'er the place where Jesus lay.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!

Then entered in those Wise men three

Full reverently upon their knee

And offered there in His presence

Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!

Then let us all with one accord

Sing praises to our heavenly Lord

That hath made Heaven and earth of nought

And with his blood mankind has bought.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel!
