Here is Chicken Little making a splash.

Item is a photographic glass-plate transparency; part of a set of colour-tinted transparencies depicting life in Japan ca. 1910, including scenery, street scenes, workers, farming, fishing, silk production, stone carvers, wood carvers, metal workers, potters, and artists.

Tonight, we made a lot of them.

Make a big one!

A year ago, I was in Calgary, Canada, producing a six hour miniseries, a new, invigorated and expansive version of Little House on the Prairie. I am still working on it in post production and the first two hours will air on ABC on March 26.

During the six months of prep and production I documented the "Making of the Movie" and posted daily images on Fotolog. I have culled through the six hundred or so images I posted during those six months and will be posting my favorites (some of them not previously posted) in the coming several weeks.

[while the image has been photoshopped, the relative color of the sky is real; there are these dramatic weather changes in late winter in Calgary when chinooks blow in and create this heavy, dramatic black arch across the sky; within hours the temperature rises by twenty or thirty degrees....

It felt like a tern Thursday, so thought I'd stray from Santa Fe. This guy was captured in the Bolsa Chica Wetlands making quite a splash while looking for fish.

I'm making cake jewels for an upcoming project. These swarovski crystals and glass beads were strung through some fishing line. I'll be using some 18-gauge stem wire to hang these pretty little baubles all around the cake, just like on Jana's Birthday cake.

I've posted a tutorial in my blog: Art of Dessert

Workers assemble a small flower that will be one of dozens on a chandelier. Each flower has perhaps a dozen small petals, each of which must be formed and attached to the stem, one at a time.

The island of Murano, near Venice, Italy, has been home to the BF Signoretti Glass Factory since 1291. It is a family owned business with glass-working skill passed from father to son. It takes a decade or two for an apprentice to become a master. Some never do.

It was fascinating to watch the worker form a chandelier stem from glowing-hot glass, in one long and sweeping free-form motion, and to realize that he had to do it again and again, each stem identical to the rest.

It was very hot by the furnaces, even though the temperature outside was mild. I wouldn't want to work there in July.

I took a few photos this morning as I made potato salad to take to a funeral at church. It's been raining and the creek is up a bit and muddy.

My mom always made potato salad and this is basically her recipe except I always use my home canned zucchini relish.
