We spend an afternoon making magical mushroom lights in our garden with young Theodore Carman, one of my art students, his mother Isabelle and my friend Jean.
In our first session, we created the mushroom stems and domes, as well as the LED lights for a dozen mushrooms. We made them by soldering surface-mounted LEDs and resistors to a stiff wire, mixing watercolor with clear silicon, shaping the stems and domes with saran wrap.
We got the first mushroom to light up at the end of the day, and it looked truly magical!
In our next session, we will assemble all these parts, drill holes in a wooden log and attach the mushrooms to it, soldering all the wires to a holder with three AA batteries.

It takes about 6 hours to make these mushrooms over two sessions, but the results make it all worthwhile.
For months, Theodore kept asking if we could make these mushrooms during our maker art classes at the Lycée, but I thought this would be too hard for some of the younger kids in our course. So I offered to have him come to our home when the course ended, so we could fulfill his dream in a smaller group.
Making art with friends is such a pleasant experience. I think creative collaborations like these are good for society, and should be encouraged more.

for those of you who have asked or are wondering: I was not in a boat, plane or helicopter when I took this shot. I was standing on the edge of a very high cliff ( 150+ ft up) Great vantage point :-)

Another amazing look from O as her friends call her. Watch out for this up and coming designer I see her going places. Amazing mesh that fits like a glove throw on your size and it just work.
Now for someone who has actual curves and boobs and am not stick skinny, so far I would have to say thank you O for being a designer.....
I'm making tiny gingerbread cookies for a party my friend is having tomorrow. We decided to do a mini food theme, so all the food will be small. So tiny gingergread ice cream sandiwiches, tiny chocolate cupcakes, buns for the mini burgers and the little smokies are on my list of thing to make today and tomorrow. We're also serving tiny grilled cheese with small cups of tomato soup, baby carrots, etc.
Around here building with stone is like making lemonade from lemons. What could be a source of frustration is now a source of raw materials and beauty throughout the garden (not to mention some serious biceps and a strong back).
Maja helped by taking 1 bite out of every single slice of bread before I could dip it in the egg mixture. tee hee

I came by this photo I took a longgggg time ago. It's actually a pretty funny story. I made these candles in our kitchen, but when I was making them, I spilt hot wax on the floor, and it stuck to the bottom of my socks. Later that day, I was walking up the stairs with a cup of coffee in my hand. My socks were extremely slippery, so I slipped on the stairs, and kind of threw the cup of coffee way in front of me, right on our white walls.
I took this picture of Taggart and Todd getting things ready for the shots. The singlemost important thing is to not move the camera looking at the computer. A rule of thumb is that the distance the back camera has to be from the front camera is equal to the sum of distances from the front camera to the mirror and the mirror to the computer (i.e. Todd was way too close.

and the food truck adventures continue. this time it was the crepes bonaparte truck which serves... yup, you guessed it... french crepes! i had actually never heard of this truck until the day of. me and the boys of TWP had an event to photograph and one of the guys wanted to hit up this truck after. lucky for us our event was in the OC and the truck was in downtown fullerton. i gotta say it was pretty good and the prices were decent too.

As alianças de ouro branco, com brilhante na aliança da noiva foram levados para a cerimônia em fusquinhas retrô com laço de cetim. My first experiment with an el cheapo ND grad filter, coupled with my ND110. It means a lot of editing to remove colourcasts and a still being left with an overexposed sky. I'm gonne save for some real GRAD filters!
How do they do it? How does Abercrombie make their clothing so appealing? Well, really it's simple. They put "beautiful" people into everyday situations. But, sometimes they forget that life doesn't run on beauty.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and when it comes right down to it, who cares? It doesn't take nice clothes or a designer logo to have fun, so why bother? The models in those pictures should be jealous of you: eating all you want, not having to worry about what "they" will think, living life how you want to.
Keep that in mind the next time you see that pair of $200 jeans that you absolutely need to have.

It's kind of funny how well this shot turned out. My sister just came up to me and asked me to take a picture of her and this is how she posed. A few tone adjustments, saturation changes and a nice black and white later, and this is what I got.
