There are several types of manju in Japan--a sweet confection with an exterior made of rice, flour and buckwheat with a filling of flavored anko. Miyajima is famous for momiji manju--manju shaped like Japanese maple leaves. You can buy them at a number of shops for about 100 yen each and the flavors range from matcha to chocolate. I love the custard and chocolate flavors, personally. I also enjoy them heated up, which some of the shops offer. You will typically be offered green to if you choose to sit and snack.

One of the cool features of Bronycon 2016 is a public area for impromptu concerts, where anyone can set up and perform for an audience of whoever happens to be walking by. Lots of talent here!

What! A GWR machine in Scotland? Collett class 56xx 0-6-2 tank engine 5643 is visiting the Boness & Kinneil railway at Bo'ness for their steam fair on Sat 21st & Sun 22nd. Here she is just past Kinneil Halt doing something she rarely did in real life - hauling passengers (though most of them are photographing her)!
My friend Hailey came over, and we made pancakes. I let her do everything except break the egg. They were a little lumpier than they would have been, but still tasty. She even poured them in the pan and flipped them over!

I...did not do a great job. ;_; They looked right, but didn't quite taste how I remembered. Slightly different ingredients than what I'd get in the US probably made an impact.
I captured a pair of chickadees making a nest in this rotten tree, which was standing in the marsh water. The green color in the background is the algae from the marsh pond.
This bird is on duty pecking away at the tree, boring a hole and cavity in which to lay eggs and raise chicks. Its mate is taking a rest (last post) but soon they will switch places :)
Look carefully and you can see specks of wood on the bird's beak...
