I always thought makeup was something fascinating. It has the ability to transform any face or body, it has different textures, colours and finishes. It can change or add personality and is used as a perfecting tool in a daily basis. I have been playing with makeup for a while now and although I find the whole process quite rewarding I wanted to try and get it out of its usual surface.
In my work I have been experimenting, firstly, with how makeup reacts and adapts to paper, by printing it or painting it directly with a brush. Here I just free my mind and let the matter speak by itself, so it can develop quickly and spontaneously. Later, a method comes through and the paper comes to life as a new skin to work with, but this skin is flawless and clear. The makeup I previously used to enhance now is used to distort, makeup grease appears and the surface looks hurt and rough; the tools I previously used as makeup removers such as discs or wipes are now adding elements rather than erasers, and the whole process is transformed into a ritual where every layer has its order and place. Everything loses its prime purpose and earns a new meaning.
This is a work in progress and I do not discard working with any other surface and keep discovering new outcomes on this matter.
I am becoming obsessed with wigs! I have super short hair anyway, so it's fun to have different hair whenever I feel like it. ;) So I am doing a bunch of self portriats of me in wigs! :)
