another play on my long straight hair. the waves were a result of wearing my hair in a bun all day. the color transformation from brown-black to coppery blond hair and brown to blue eyes were done in photoshop.

My mom's company, Horcher Lifting Systems, recently donated their time, talent, and equipment to an episode of Extreme Home Makeover. Their donation affected the Latif Family in Delaware, whose young son is wheelchair bound.
The contribution was a C-Model ceiling patient lift, which can transfer a patient (via sling) short distances or throughout an entire home. For this installation, the ceiling lift was placed in the son's therapy room, where the track leads from a therapy table, bedside, and across the room into the bath/shower room. This will give his family the ability to transfer him through the room without lifting him manually or having to situate him in a wheelchair for movement. The sling and fixtures are all water/wear resistant, so the son can be bathed directly from the sling, without leaving the track - again, removing the need for his family to manually lift/carry him.

This is totally bragging on my mom. Only she doesn't know it. She contacted EM:HE and got the ball rolling on this donation. These patient lifts and ceiling tracks seem like such a simple (duh!) kind of thing, but so many - too many - people don't realize that they exist. Or think that they're unaffordable/unattainable. Which puts physical stress on caregivers and/or patients. When Ryan used to do the installations for these in private homes, he always remarked about how such a simple concept would give people their lives back: independence, freedom of movement. We have seen people's lives change dramatically because they have the ability to transfer themselves from bed to chair or move through their house without assistance.
Anyway - go mom! :)
Since I haven't had a haircut in more than a year, I decided to splurge. I went to this super posh place in Belmont Shore called Dean Anthony. They had televisions embedded into the mirrors. I got to watch the Music City Bowl while getting my haircut. The lovely woman in the background is Lisa, who cut my hair.
