For my friend Posicat's birthday, a group of us got together for a visit to Medieval Times in Shcaumberg.
The show was technically impressive. Great lights and sound. Lots of action. The stage combat was a little bit unconvincing to me at times, but it was still fun to watch.
What weirded me out was the plot. It started out as a ren-fairesque chivalrous tournament. That was enjoyable. But at the end it devolved into a spectacle that reminded me of Roman gladiatorial combat. It became out-and-out blood sports, and I was uncomfortable watching it, and with the crowd's reactions to it.
There were some plot threads that were a bit difficult for me to follow as well, but I blame that on a combination of hearing difficulties and distraction with my camera.
Shooting the event was a lot of fun. I learned more about how to use my manual f2.8 135mm prime. There were many pretty horses and pretty men to keep pointing my camera at.
The food was plentiful and good too. I was a little unsure about how much to tip servers, since I don't know whether they make tipped minimum wage or not, how many people they're serving, and how much work was going on behind the scenes.
Anyway, the whole thing was pretty fun. I don't need to go again, but I'm glad to have gone out and done something memorable for a friend's birthday.

June 15: More wall prep. The top center of each stud was marked with a nail in the rake board. The bottom center was marked on this stick, that butted up into an inside corner. Later, after hanging building wrap, this will let me snap chalk lines to help position nails so they hit the middle of the studs. When I started this I was using a makeshift plumbbob but wow... what a difference the new fancy one makes! TIP: Use *braided* masons line. I found some that came already wound on a reel, which works great. Also, I'm using a fairly heavy bob because I'm working outside and the weight resists light breezes. Before hanging paper, I'm checking the studs for significant bowing. If I were hand-nailing, I might not care because I'd realize a given nail was not hitting stud. But I'm shooting ringshanked nails with a framing nailer. If not positioned to shoot into a stud, the nail tends to shoot through the surface of the board, causing structural damage to board (called "blow through").
Strengths: He's one of those lengthy small forward prospects. Has the athletic ability to go get it off the glass, will even make tips at the rim. His perimeter game is of the catch and shoot variety. Let's call him what he is: a guy with a significant upside, the kind that you want to believe in.
Weaknesses: He didn't play his first two years of high school so there isn't a resume at all. He'll start from scratch and play his first high school ball at Madison Prep in Baton Rouge in 2011-12. His lack of experience outside of AAU makes the evaluation very difficult. He wants to play up and down so getting used to playing at a slower, more collegiate pace will be something to overcome.
Bottom Line: This is a prospect. He has all the physical markers and his athleticism is outstanding. Determining what kind of player he is - competitive, instinctive, winner - will go a long way in the evaluation. He's a talent, and one will have to watch closely.

Here is another place where we cut corners. We had no funds to purchase party tables, so we got creative and used a free desk we found on craigslist, cut it in half and topped it off with a dolly we had in the garage. We covered it using a sheet. Both tables in each team barracks were free to make.
TIP: We found all our free furniture on Craigslist.com.
New payment systems make tipping easier—and more expensive. Push the tip jar too hard and customers eventually push back.

Spicy bacon stuffed mushrooms. . . YES PLEASE!!!!! We found these great mushrooms at the store the other day. They were just too nice to cut and use as a supporting veggie in the main course, we had to do something more with these beauties. So, we started looking around the fridge and discovered, we had bacon, cream cheese (that was NOT expired, score!), and some ranch dressing (also NOT expired, double score! No borrowing weird items from the neighbor this time! 😆I'm just kidding, we don't actually do that.).
Usually, when we make stuffed mushrooms we use ranch seasoning to add flavor to the cream cheese. Lucky for us, this time, we didn't have any of the ranch dry seasoning in the house, soooo we substituted it for ranch dressing. Let me tell you, this was the best substitute ever!!! The flavor popped and it made some of the most fantastic stuffed mushrooms!
Best way to cook bacon
The hardest part about making these spicy bacon stuffed mushrooms is cooking the bacon and maybe stuffing the mushrooms. Yeah, they are easy to make!
TIP: Don't pan fry the bacon. First, line a baking sheet with foil and place the bacon on the baking sheet. Bake the bacon in the oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the kitchen will smell great and the bacon is nice and crispy. In addition, NO mess! Just let the bacon grease cool. It can be saved to cook with in the future if you want, or just throw the grease out with the foil. You can also air fry the bacon.
Just make TIP TOP TRANSPORT the part of your trip and have a safe exciting peaceful and relaxing group traveling.
