Had another one of those days where I really should have shot the concept on another day due to the lack of light. but at the same time I have no other concepts on my mind. Either was for what I had I made it work.

Also now withmy second job I make tips and I've been hording them in my room. in order to cash them in I have to re-roll them out of the plastic rollers and into paper ones because my bank won't take the plastic ones. Anyway I want to put all of that money into my photography and I'm trying to figure out what I want/need most. One my list is props, costumes, tripod, lens, graphics tablet.

Right now I'm leaning towards props and costumes.

Well I'm off to bed. night

Sipho Mabona's Tigers. (\sip'(h)o\; not \sifo\ as I heard in the articulation of a women who was speaking in Spanish on a T.V.). The Sipo (Entandrophragma) est un très grand arbre de la famille des Meliacæ [...], " dans la forêt dense africaine ", son bois est très noble).

Other versions, excellent modifications were made by the author later: www.kklb.ch/kklb/agenda?s=2016-11-20-sipho-mabona.

From radically different structures; while maintaining (almost) the (same) appearance of his Tiger, coming the head and the tail from the edges of a square (in the first versions) or from diagonal corners of a square (in the linked version).

In the late version, the hind legs' flaps have more layers; in the first one, the base of tail is more realistic (I tested the late version too; from the structure of his Rhinoceros).

(The Traditional structures to make tips or create flaps, drown by Satoshi Kamiya:

www.folders.jp/uc/2021/826/.)

In these tests, the eyes (rounded with a chopstick) are the result of a simple Closed sink fold on the respective flap; in the middle image, the hips are the result of an Unsink fold on two very small sank portions, a Wrap fold at hindlegs' flaps; having Ungrafted the square piece of paper at one edge of the square. Ce n'est pas du tout le plus complexe modèle de Tigre ; mais il est adorable, bien aimé; après John Montroll (inside-out designs), Hideo Komatsu (the same but diffenciated), Hojyo Takashi (much more complex pleats), S. Kamiya, Q. Trollip. Etc.

I started making my DIY ringflash when 'Everybody loves Raymond' started yesterday afternoon and ended up finishing it as the football ended late last night. Very fiddly project I got myself into...but I think it paid off in the end. I'll just evolve the design and make it less bulky the next time I make one.

I can't believe that I couldn't find any reflective tape at any Hardware store yesterday! Would have made it a lot easier to make.

The end of a slate waste tip. 90% of Dinorwic's rock ended up being tipped. These metal frames were used at the end of some of the tips. Their purpose was to make tipping slate waste easier and to help prevent wagons ending up on the tips, as well as the rock!

I frequently wish DC's streets were as clean and tidy as, say, Oslo's. Wouldn't that be nice? Not to mention, a whole lot of crud wouldn't end up in the Potomac and Anacostia rivers when it rains. I pick up as much trash as I can handle within a certain radius of my home, but it's just overwhelming on a District-wide basis. If everyone picked up one piece of litter a day, think how much of a difference it would make. Tip: carry an extra tissue with you at all times, so if you see something particularly yucky, you can use the tissue to grasp it and not actually come in contact with it.

For my friend Posicat's birthday, a group of us got together for a visit to Medieval Times in Shcaumberg.

The show was technically impressive. Great lights and sound. Lots of action. The stage combat was a little bit unconvincing to me at times, but it was still fun to watch.

What weirded me out was the plot. It started out as a ren-fairesque chivalrous tournament. That was enjoyable. But at the end it devolved into a spectacle that reminded me of Roman gladiatorial combat. It became out-and-out blood sports, and I was uncomfortable watching it, and with the crowd's reactions to it.

There were some plot threads that were a bit difficult for me to follow as well, but I blame that on a combination of hearing difficulties and distraction with my camera.

Shooting the event was a lot of fun. I learned more about how to use my manual f2.8 135mm prime. There were many pretty horses and pretty men to keep pointing my camera at.

The food was plentiful and good too. I was a little unsure about how much to tip servers, since I don't know whether they make tipped minimum wage or not, how many people they're serving, and how much work was going on behind the scenes.

Anyway, the whole thing was pretty fun. I don't need to go again, but I'm glad to have gone out and done something memorable for a friend's birthday.

One of only two such clocks in the world.

The guy talking in the background is a street begger. This is his area, and he makes tips by telling people about the steam clock.

This is the currency that Cubans use. Called moneda nacional, or simply pesos, it was worth 1/24th of a CUC.

I never did get an explanation from a Cuban of the reasoning behind the dual currencies. A friend of mine who visited about 10 years ago said that when she was there, the US dollar was used as tourist currency. We were under the impression that US dollars would be acceptable for tips and informal exchange, but that wasn't our experience - either we took the money to the currency exchange (el cambio), or they did.

The dual currencies have had the effect of creating a strange, inverted economy. Anyone who works in the service industry and comes into contact with tourists makes tip money in CUCs. Since CUCs are so much more valuable than moneda nacional, families often live primarily on the income earned by whichever family member can get a service industry job. As a result, one often finds doctors driving taxicabs, and professors working as tour guides (like our guide, Amircal).

I find a lot of workshop photos from Duncan on the camera. I'm not sure why he took a picture of this, but I can tell you he uses old bridges to make tip plugs for bow rehairs.
