A somewhat shabby looking Class 47/4 47849 in Mainline livery heads away from Cardiff with the 07:48 Swansea to York InterCity Cross Country service.
Built at BR Crewe, D1630 entered traffic in October 1964. It became 47048 in 1974 and in October 1980, 47570. The InterCity Mainline livery replaced BR Blue and as 47849 it later gained the bodyside Swallow branding when the InterCity livery was applied. A short career in Virgin livery was to follow before a repaint to Large Logo Blue and grey roof being completed. Having suffered fire damage at the end of 2001 the locomotive was stored but then taken to Brush, Loughborough for possible conversion to a 57/3. However, structural defects rendered it unsuitable, so a move to Toton for component stripping before disposal by Booth Roe, Rotherham was completed in 2002.
