I wanted to work on adjusting my apeture and shutter speed accordingly for light conditions, so I photographed in areas that had little, if any light at all. In this case, the lighting was harsh and flourescent. Not only is the mailbox open, but so is the shutter (for 1/4 sec!). Surprisingly, the image did not show too much camera shake, although the focus got a little bit skewed.
Strange how this mailbox still sits in relatively healthy fashion in front of the crumbling house--even though it clearly has not bee occupied in decades. Curious, I checked and found it empty of mail. Don't tell the fed on me! Near Low Gap, Arkansas
This is the completed mailbox that I have been working on. It is a 6x6 cedar post, of which I ripped and custom cut the support arms out of the remaining 6x6 lumber. The horizontal support arm is inserted into a hand-chiseled mortise int the post for strength. All surfaces were sanded smooth to a furniture grade finish (call me meticulous). I then applied a coat of stain, sanded again, 1 coat of exterior paint, sanded again, and then applied the final coat of paint. I located the larger vinyl cut numbers for my address marking. My wife and I had installed the perennials a few weeks ago as I began working on the box.

In my mailbox today, my earring from the designer Clémentine Manuel.
Pacing around my home trying to figure out what I could shoot that would still be creative and original. Once my I went out to get the mail it just clicked. Had to make several attempts finding the correct shutter speed (which was 1/50!) and used the built in timer. But nevertheless, here it is. Wah Lah!
If you look closely, it looks like i have a lazy eye ;)
My father gave me this stand of mailboxes. I am going to use them in my craft room for display/storage.
